Great build and lots of good pics, you know we luvs them pics! I think 35mastr was wondering about the arm sticking out of the bed side, shock mount? Maybe torsion bar? I would also like to know the sources of several items like engine/trans, rear axle. These things look "ferrin ta me! You ain't from around these parts, are ya boy?"
Sorry, just gone back and re read 35mastr question,I replied without thinking, the thing he was talking about is a Armstrong lever shock, the body of the shock is hidden as you can see behind the panel. And now for your questions, ,No we not from around your parts ,Do ya know where NZ is ? We are using parts we have collected over the years, its my sons car,hes 13,Engine 2tg Toyota, diff is also jappa, trans is 5 speed jappa.I understand its not HAMB friendly to some ,but gotta start some where.
Lookin' good mate! Hope your son knows how lucky he is! I've done a few spring behind set ups with early Ford parts, either with T bucket style crossmembers or A's. Always used stock axle though - With the spring between the 'bones, you'll be tight aginst those horns - unless you have a lot of arch put in that spring. Be nice to have the security of the horns if the spring fails though - there's a reason that's typically called a 'suicide' front end
Hi there Steve & Billy, rpu looks great. Mmmmm don't remember building that radiator ! Hahaa, just kiddin. Ready for Rangoon '10 ? Cheerz.... Linz.
Bullshit!! It's about the build ethic, the style, the look...and you guys have them all. If it was just about period correct vintage parts we would all be restorers. I'll happily debate anyone that says this car isn't HAMB friendly, including you. Pete
Cheers, got good clearance between Horns & Axle, can add another leaf in spring to increase this. Linz Hi mate,Rick gave Bill the Radiator,I think its ex Pete Coulters Coupe, but perhaps we should get it checked out MATE haha Pete ,ur a good bugger ,only just caught up with ur stuff, hope all is back on track, you also got me thinking about cutting the wires,im now gunna do the same to avoid what you had to go through ,easy to do it now i guess, what you use for connectors Pete ?
RANGIORA, YES ! ,bloody hell yeah !, Hey ,Michelle is doing all Craigs typing for MCM, entrys are out now.Its gunna be the biggest ever to hit the Mainland ,got groups of 20+ from clubs up North wanting to enter. Being the 20th ,its created some interest from that other Island we have .....hahah
Going to be a busy few months early next year.... Rangoon, Beach Hop, Hot Rod Nats (Blenheim) then Pre '49 Nats here in Christchurch. Linz.
Yip Linz, ur gunna need a few more radiators to repair ?, no accomadation in Blenheim I hear, with it being there ,there will be more NI entrys than SI ?
Looks like a great father & Son project. Hope your going to restrict the throttle somehow, that'll be a rocket with that engine.
Not to much worthy of any pic's of late, but just been playing around with some panels for the 'cockpit'........
Ha ha ha. I bolted mine together for the last time.......about three times. Hope you have better luck than me. Come to think of it I don't think luck has much to do with it. Planning and checking have more of an influence. Looking forward to seeing it done Pete
Hi Pete, I did change that post as a pic didnt show ,change the wording, Im confident about 'for the last time' ,as ive already done it about 4 times.fingers crossed. Hows ur toy going ?
Working out the bugs. As quick as I fix stuff, more stuff shows itself. Nothing too major yet though. I ventured a little further from home with my boy, Eddie, on Sunday. About a 1/2 hr drive in the beautiful sunshine. I love roadsters
If doing holes, theres two ways ,either the chassis punch& flare type tools or the 'poor' mans way like we did them all............drill hole with hole saw, hand flare the edge........
'Poor man's way' my ass!I did some oval holes in my cross members by chain drilling and hand filing! That's the real poor mans way,and you know what,I'll never do it that way again!Ha Ha Seriously though,I like the way you did the holes and,if it's o.k. with you,I'll be stealing that method for future use. Regards, Mark
hay grate work, I am a X east bay rodder last time I was back there was 12 years ago ,keep up the good work.
Bit late now but there are some good tech threads about flaring your holes. I think Lowsquire did one. All you need is access to a lathe to make a male and female tool with a bolt through the middle. Very simple to make. I admire your patience using that nifty little tool though. I bet you have strong fingers.
I LIKE Scotland,me come on over do the holes for ya...... Cheers for that, some nice Rods out of that Club,ya coming 'home'....? Pete ,MY FINGERS ARE BIGGER THAN MY ARMS.........
