Best Mercury ever built?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by PrecisionGuesswork, Sep 14, 2009.

  1. Another great merc that didn't get the recognition it deserved. I believe it was the inspiration for Javiers merc (see A32flathead's post)

I'm with this 100% BUT, I would add Paul Bragg's '51 convertible. (So alright, 98%).

  18. GOT to be sarcassim,LOL....

Real hard to choose between the Hirohata,Sam Barris, and Matranga. So i'm gonna say...three-way tie!

A 49 or 50 Mercury is sort of like a 32 Ford.....in that I've never seen one that I liked 100%. There's always a few things I'd change no matter how perfect they seem. They are the coolest Mercs though.

But now I'll piss everybody off probably, but if I could have any Mercury.....it would be Dyno Don's 64 Comet.

Damn ....looking at that Matranga Merc in front of Fremont High.....beautiful car in a beautiful time. Fremont just a block from my brothers house and about a couple miles from mine. It's enough to bring a tear to a glass eye.

Those rods from the past are the originals, created from what the builders saw and liked in the times. Classic statements still looking good all these years later.

Todays copies are nice, Jesse's Merc is beatiful, but nothing says more about what it was and is than those old cars.

We seem to have a very long tradition over here of talented builders with no fucking design sense whatsoever.
