Well ,I've finally managed to completely wear out the little 302 in my '40 coupe . My grandfather bought a brand new Galaxie in 1969 and drove it until he just had to have a new Granada . My dad bought it from him and drove it for several more years . The '69 got tired and dad put it out to pasture behind the trees until we built my '40 together when I was 15-16 (thanks dad). We did a basic overhaul on it , still using original pistons and cam , and now it has 220,000 miles on it . 105,000 of them are in the Fordy . She's getting another heart transplant this week as I do not have time to tear down , bore , and re-assemble before the Pumpkin Run in 2 1/2 weeks .
So I was wondering , how many on here truly have over 100k on their hot rod , with one engine , and one owner ?
I believe Bob Ain and Denise fit in this category , who else ?

My dad is also there with his roadster , which was built by Lobecks and was the N.S.R.A (r.i.p) giveaway car in 1984 . At least half of the miles were put on my '40 and the roadster simultaneously on long road trips (and short ones).

Our 35 ford coupe has a little over 160,000 miles on it. We have owned it for 33 years. Each year it gets more put on it than the previous year.

I never had, but I used to have a neighbor up the street from my shop who had a chopped purple '58 Impala (you read that right) that he built in 1982 and put over 200K miles on it after the build. I was pretty impressed with that.

97,385 miles on my 1958 Ford Fairlane Town sedan and she is still running great. She only uses about a quart of oil in between oil changes and still gets about 23 mpg. She is the old mileage maker six cylinder with the three on the tree. She puffs a little blow by after driving her on the highway and then sitting at idle at a stoplight but she doesnt knock or smoke under acceleration so I am pretty sure she will make it to the 100,000 miles and probably many more as she is still my daily driver

I've had my '32 roadster on the road for 9 years,3 months. 131,750 miles. Why build one if you're not gonna drive it?

Changed oil on my Econoline yesterday. Last one was 1 year 2 days ago, 1002 miles ago. I should be there in about 80 years.

For those that are replying, I'd like to know if you are running radials or bias ply tires.

I do believe we aren't taking about daily drivers here.

I put about 250,000 miles on my 48 in the past 20 years it's been on the road. Not sure how much on one motor. It's had 5.

I could have built several trucks form all the changes I made over the years. Some to make it better, some cause I had to. It was detroyed in a hit and run accident in 96 and a lot was replaced then.

It's had 2 chssis, 5 motors, 3 trannys, 3 sets of gauges, 3 different seats, 2 roofs, 3 windshields, and has been repainted (primed) at least a dozen times.

I gave away a running 1962 1/2 ton D100 Dodge PU 225 6 cly.with about a 4:10 posy rear end that had #3 piston replaced at 164,800+ miles, drove it for 12 years after that, but at about 290,000 miles would bend push rods above 55 MPH (fixed with a hammer) and a sticking carb float (fixed with a hammer), and it still had good brakes on the left side.

  21. haha.... yeah, saw the other thread. Radials here, I put 1,500 smooth, trouble free miles on the coupe the week of the HAMB drags.

Oh, and it's only got 65k miles on it since 1982... not even broke in yet..

Don't think it's a hot rod, but a hopped up 72 Merc 1/2 ton pickup that is my daily driver. It presently has over 600,000 miles on it.I bought it with 75,000 original miles on it.Wore out two 302's before I swapped in a 460 & have wore two of them out ( the last one lasted 325,000 miles ). My present built 460 has over 125,000 & is still going strong, but i'm afraid the drive train will out last the sheet metal.New sheet metal is in the works tho.

  25. I've put 787,000 on my 75 2 wheel drive Blazer and plan on another 213,000 I'll not live long enough to put a million miles on another rig

  26. SERIOUSLY?

Who HASN'T if they have been around for a short while?

My faithful daily workhorse 1952 Studie had 110,000 miles on it way back in 1974 when it was an old old truck many decades ago.

I don't know how many times it has turned over in those 35 years since then, but still yet another speedometer crapped out on me again. An Autometer I put in in the late 90's, ran 75,000 in the late 90's, and then crapped. I haven't had a speedo workng for about ten years now. Changed about three others before that.
Every dozen years or so I put in a JC Whitney ring and bearing set and keep on getting rough with it.
    Hauls firewood, lumber, roofing, parts.....

I don't realy care how many times the speedo has turned over. I just know it has at least a few times.

OMG! does that mean this kid may be getting old?

I put over 140,000 on my chopped 55 Olds after I put it on the road after customizing it, between 1982 and 2003.
3 sets of bias ply's, 3 sets of brakes, ...still original kingpins in it! Rebuilt the 324 and hydro in 82, and they are still going strong, 'cept for a leak or 2.
I'm officially the second owner, and the car had about 70K on it when I rescued it from the yard of a bodyshop.

Wow , there are a lot of tired hot rods on here ! Guess that's why most of us have a spare;).When my tub is finished, the Fordy will get a much deserved freshening up .
Denise , second set of radials here .

Have bought few new vehicles (let someone else lose the first 3 years of depreciation!!!); but have done 100K on several second-hand vehicles without changing engines.

The best being over 420K on a Ford Econoline 300 CID. Head was never off the engine. Bought it at 80K and redid the brakes; upgraded the Holley 1 barrel to a Carter 4-barrel; and upgraded the 3-speed manual to a 4-speed manual right after the purchase. Changed clutch when we changed the transmission.

Other than fuel, oil, plugs, and one set of tires, etc., the only maintenance was to replace the electronic ignition module 4 times (give me points and condenser ANY DAY instead of the *&^%$#@ unreliable electronics), and fixed the rust (thanks Missouri, for your salted roads) twice. Retired the vehicle when it rusted through the third time.

The most interesting thing about this (at least to me) is that I see people DOWNGRADING to electronic conversions on older vehicles thinking they are making improvements???
