Man, it's hard to beat the colors in these old film shots. Amazing...

  16. This picture was posted several pages ago and I knew something looked familiar about it.

So on my way to Indy on Labor Day weekend I kept a sharp lookout as I got a little bit south of Elwood, Ind. And sure enough, it's still there as an operating restaurant near the airport. Though I didn't see any carhop (plane hop?) babes toting food out on the runway.

Even the old rooftop sign was still in place. But I'm guessing that the menu has been updated recently. I don't think they originally served elk burgers.

Amazing piece of history there! Any idea where the photo was taken?

  25. Yea, I took it at a bar in upcountry Maui Hawaii.
I think it was in Kula.

Portland Bottling Company. The 7up sign hasn't rotated since 1962.

Not a real old sign but a legend among tiki bars - The Alibi in Portland, Oregon.

  29. Here are a few signs I like from the Mendenhall museum in Buelton,CA. I hear there are 2,500 signs there and I believe it. I'm sure it is one of the best collections in the country.
