I LOVE old 'junk'! My collection era is generally WWII through the mid 1960s. I'm trying to focus my collecting (ha ha ha) to certain things (vintage table cloths and aprons is a big one) but just like any other collector I have tendency to stray, ESPECIALLY with auto related antiques! It's ironic you posted that Orange Crush clock. One of my best friends just gave me a re-pop for my birthday. I hung it in my kitchen. It's so new I don't even have a pic yet. I think she got it at Pier One of all places! And that gray metal desk? That's my entertainment center in my living room for now. Until I find one of these to replace it with! I'm a big fan of yard sales and auctions, you can get things so cheap! Here are a few of my recent favorite finds... 1950s doctor office couch Everyone needs a 'real' lawn mower Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without an aluminum tree (complete with color wheel) And this sweet shade-less lamp (still looking for just the right one) I know Ryan and I aren't alone...show your goods!
All that sh*t is friggin outa this world! I love it! That phone especially. And the tools and the clock and the......well, all of it! I've been cleaning out my dad's garage and I've been finding all kinds of old shit. Old oil tins, some with the spouts still on them. Some from Australia, some from Sweden. Old wood tools and even older tools I never even knew he had (when they were still made in the USA!). Old tire gauges, levels, folding yard sticks, old ass tape measures and mucho more! It's pretty cool to see it. I just wish I could keep most of it. Alot will prolly be sold.
VIVA LA OLD SH!T ! Thats some cool stuff on here. I'll post up mine after work Ryan, best of luck on the run!
I remember a couple years back when I was still living at home, I used to get so mad at my dad for bringing that "old shit" home... now a few years later and owning my own place, it is packed with that "old shit" and I absolutely love it!
I scored a LARGE handmade rolling toolchest this summer. All wood, many drawers, looks to be 40s vintage. Was full of some old carpenters tools from the Bay area. He handed it down to the retired guy I bought it from. I paid $25 and the promise of a good home. Street value for the planes alone is prob $500 but to me they are priceless. My plastic Japanese pull saw looks comical in the top compared to all the other tools!
It seems I am always on the hunt for old classic treasures as well, and most of the time they are what people are selling at garage sales.
I have a great fondness for the old parts store catalog racks. I use this small one for my old hot rod catalogs. I imagine that you might be able to find a use for one in the office.
Old shit? You want to see old shit? Man, that's all I've got. My friends call me the king of lost causes, 'cause all my stuff is nearly beyond repair when I get it. I'll post some pics when I get home tonight. I work in the U of I Library. That's where all the old shit is stored. I've even touched an original Gutenberg Bible. Now that's old!
Gotta love the old shit. We've been working on our office recently... I'll have to get some pics of our stuff once it's a little cleaner.
I love old shit too, useful, decorative and made in the USA!!! I have a go kart for decoration also, not a real good pic but it is a 59 rupp dart kart with twin west bends the orange 1 is my rider old dragsters make good "furniture too" old magazine rack with old magazines old round refrigerators rock action shot, putting the dragster upstairs
Old stuff is the spice of life. My shop is full of it, but since you mentioned battery chargers here is mine. Have fun collecting.
Moriarity NUTS. The Hurst shifter display and the Roth paint center are awesome. How often do you light that dragster!? Thanks. Slim
cool old sign i found at an antique shop for 5 bux porcelin over steel ... anyone know what the other language is?
Moriarty has it now! That Testors Paint rack is fricken cool! Everything on this thread is fricken cool!
For me, I like old sh!t for the rememberance of a simpler, slower time. I love my cel phone/mp3 player, but really miss pre-1980s phone service. I'll never forget the way my Grandpa sounded when we'd call him for the holidays. St.Louis to England. I love my XM radio too, but miss the stop and go of 8tracks, or the crackling of vinyl. Some TV shows look better on B&W than on a flattie. Digital video basically sucks anyway. Kodachrome, RIP.
When so many dealerships were recently closed an area Dodge dealership was hit. I kept my eye on an old MOPAR clock they had in the parts dept. It has to be 50+ years old. I asked about it when the dealership closed. Not for sale.
A few years back I saw a tanker desk in great condition in a thrift shop for $35, at the time I had no room. I still think about it everytime I park my ass behind my POS ikea desk
Ryan- A desk like that needs pinstriped!!!!!!! Also don't forget coffee tables made from old drag slicks with a piece of cut glass on them!!
I think I have that desk lamp, I know I have an old cast iron batter charger... and I have one of those gas station bells that ring when you run over a hose... if you want 'em, let me know... I gotta look for the lamp though.
The old stuff we all love has style and quality that will never be topped . Whether it's a hot rod , desk , oil can or kid's wagon this stuff all goes hand in hand to me .
A friend of mine bought a desk like the one Ryan posted at an Army surplus store. He pained it black and the handles white and bought a piece of laminate to cover the top. It looked and worked great. Old stuff is what I'm all about, check out my blog at retrohound.com
38zephyr, Let me guess....You like stuff from the late 1930's that are streamlined !! Me Too, that's my favorite era. Cool collection !!
