That's as noted, johnny Eck a famous sideshow performer when things like that was accepted. He played a role in the 1932 classic "Freaks".

 

Those "sailors" standing in front of the elephant are givin' me nightmares of cheap, Asian prostitutes and having your kidney's "harvested" in a pay-by-the-hour foreign motel being sewed back up with 5-LB test fishing line and an upside down Diet Pepsi bottle hanging from the headboard post as an IV drip. BRRRRRR!
