Here is the mostly tube chassis I built for my '27 Track T. It is made of 1 3/4" x .120" wall, 1 1/2" x .120" wall and 1 1/4" x .120" wall round tubing. All the bends were done on my JD Squared bender:

I like the look of that! It's a lot like the frames that enjoyed a brief vogue in the early to mid '50s, which had two relatively large-diameter, thinnish-walled round-tube rails, the idea being that that profile of each is about right for resisting half of any torque to which the frame might be subjected. It's sound, but space-frames and monocoques ended up being lighter in practice, because a thin enough tube wall would make for a frame that wouldn't handle minor damage well.

  8. I built the dirt mod frame 40 years ago using the "pack sand" method. The drawing is one I was going to bend up with my Hossfeld 'til I bought the avatar car.

    Drive-em,
I love your car!! Especially the way you have moved the rear wheels forward out of the stock position. I have always thought that this really makes a 27 look great, like a real hot rod! Your frame is very nice.

Thanks, with the wheels in the stock position, it just did not look right.

What kind of "rules" do you have to follow to be "able" to run these wonderful cars on the road? Do you use some kind of drawing or do you build as you go along?

I saw a chassis for a Cobra that started with just two big tubes and after that I am sold on tubes

    attached pictures is from: http://clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69588&page=4

Your ride is really cool! Did you follow some drawing for the chassis?

Years ago I built a track roadster with a tradtional ladder type frame. Altough the car drove ok, it wasn't what I wanted. I blew the car apart, and built a tube space frame. The difference in the cars driving was phenomenal. No more frame flex when pulling in the driveway and the car handled so much better. If you can live with the non-tradional looks, they are great.

Since Don posted pix of the Rat Patrol dragster I guess that I can put up shots of my new top fuel car. Using the iron 392 block on the jig but the race motor is a Donovan. Putting the forward uprights in today and it should be on wheels by the end of this weekend.
Bent with a Pro Tools #105, notched with a Mittler Ultimate and stuck together with a Miller Synchro 250.

    Thanks Tooby
I just set the body in ride hight an add wheels, engine and go from there.
I use the floor as jig and bolt stand in the floor and then weld the tubing
    to the stands .
The tubing is 42x3mm I think I use 25m tubing for the chassi

    SirToby:

Yep. The sedan and the T have SFI25.4 spec cockpits. The truck is engineering and one off design.
