Not quite. As much as I appreciate 390Merc posting some coverage of the show, too many of these rods are just attention getting piles of ****, and have little to nothing to do with the broadest interpetation of TRADITIONAL rods and customs. How hard is it to understand what the focus of the HAMB is really about?

With good cause! Just my 2 cents worth, *****6

Not to start a **** storm here, but 390Mercs pictures are no different than some I have seen from previous HCPU's, Beatersville's, RR Rumble's and Lonestar roundups.

It's coverage of a car event for christs sake. If you don't like every picture then breeze right over it and go to the next one.
I for one thank him for taking the pictures at an event that I could not attend.

I treat this post as a car show... you go to a car show and you will see RR's, street rods, and others..... as well as trad's .... and you enjoy what you like and ignore what you don't like.

Oh never mind... if you go to a car show you WILL see a RR or SR there, so I guess you avoid car shows because you can't stand to see anything not trad.....

So you want to rely on those who do go to shows to take a lot of pix and post only those of trad rods.

Whatever. I enjoyed all the photos.

SOME missed my point, he could have left out the photos of the rat rods and the coverage for the event would have been on target for the HAMB. As it stands now it belongs on the 'ol skool rods site.

It's not about what I like or don't like, or what you like or don't like, it's about what the HAMB is about..... Traditional styled hot rods and customs, not pieces of rat rod ****.

I could have posted the same insight when someone posted a bunch of photos of billet clad streetrods in the Frog Follies coverage a couple of weeks ago. Some get the HAMB's focus, some don't. Has NOTHING to do with personal opinion.

Great event, I and a buddy made the painfully slow drive to the show site & greatly enjoyed all the cars present. More cars to look at, than my feet could tolerate me walking to see. Did not have time to check out the 441 Hwy scene. Thanks so much for your photos !
    More please...

I am new here & am wondering after reading these comments in this thread, is there only a certain group of hot rodders the HAMB'ers want to join ? I came onto this board to enjoy all the different cool rides that people build here. While I am a Mopar muscle car guy, (once had a '48 E Ford) I do enjoy all types of hotrods.

Thanks again for the cool pics. Looking forward to next year's show.

Excellent question, sir, and thanks for asking it.

I think that the HAMB is open to the certain group of rodders who can appreciate what traditional rods and customs, up through '64, are all about. Within that range, there is wide laditude as to what is cool and interesting. If you watch and read for a while, you'll find that there are a lot of topics that are on, or near that target.

What the HAMB is not really about is easter egg colored '80's rods, donks, bubbles and boxes, huge rimz w/ rubber band tires, slick and smoooouuthed out late model looking billet rods, muscle cars, and self-indulgent, no-scub-line, look-at-me, lets see what kind of goofy ******** I can hang off of this rolling pile of **** looking rat rods!

Other than that, you're good ta go! :D

    Yes,
there will be probably more cars during the grand run on the strip...more musclecars, maybe...but most of the cars that were on the strip for the shades will stay 'till this weekend. Believe it or not, traffic will be worse this weekend because the grand run has always had more of a "party" type feel...which means alot more of a "young" crowd . Still, if you can handle the traffic, it is worth the ride...I haven't missed either a rod run or shades show since I was 15 (I'm 33)...

    Thanks for posting my 3W ... :)

The wife and I had a BLAST ... driving it around, going out to eat with other HAMB folks and generally having a good time.

There were a BUNCH of RR vehicles there :(
But that is what you get at a event like the Shades.
Most of them WERE NOT registered at the event and just sat around idle in the motel parking lots . Face facts ... they are HERE ... and will be until the FAD goes away. Most are basically undrivable for any distance ( comfort issues ) and are being HAULED to the events.

When folks quit looking and taking photos of them ... they will die out and go away :D IMHO ...

To each his own.....I have seen and ridin in some nice Rat Rods with alot of bucks tied up in them. I have also seen some I wouldnt get in. Lots of people call my 34 Plymouth a ratrod to me its a Hotrod (fenderless) that I drive anywhere comfortable or not I drive. I made how I wanted it and whether it is shiny or not doe not matter...So what is traditional? rational? Streetional?Hotrodional? After reading all these comments it kinda made me feel uncomfortable. I have been to Beatersville,Redneck Rumble,Frog Follies,HotRod Reunion,Street Rod nationals this year and just like the variety of what is there. Like some of the others said if it doesnt appeal to you keep on walking....but dont DARE take a pic!!!!

It was strongly suggested that I read the following post so I would understand the audience and purpose of the HAMB. Its comes down to not watering down the REASON for this site. Its not about the HAMB changing to fit your taste, my taste or any new fads. It comes down to this board being (for some) traditions last vestige.

I'm sure we can all recall some great annual car shows that turned to **** after being "diluted". After taking the advice to re-read Ryans posts from 2003 to 2008 I came across this one -

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=278963
    (see post #19 by Ryan)

I came across requests from Ryan "to refocus on the purpose of the HAMB" dating back to 2003

"Sheep Rodders" can find something they like about every car... that still doesn't mean it should be taking up band width here.

The "Traditional Police" on this site are absurd. If you do not like someones car DO NOT LOOK AT IT! I guess the next big thing will be you obnoxious turds will be carrying badges so no one confuses you with the "Rat Rod" crowd. Maybe you can even write tickets for "Traditional Infractions". Give me a break!

The 59 was super cool with its 8" rims and dog-dish caps. Appeared to be very nice and all original with a 292 and 3spd manual shift. Asking price of $12,500. One of the main reasons I like Pigeon Forge is all the early 60's Ford Galaxies ****tered about. Almost every motel front yard/parking lot has one or two.

You guessed right!! We were down there for a week and a half. The 64 Galaxie was packed to the gills and a bike carrier hanging off the back with two bikes to ride around town and look at all the cars. Somehow it looked like we ended up bringing more home than we took, had to pack some stuff in a friend's car as well for the return trip.
