I've been searching the net for years trying to find pics of my first and favorite dragstrip and there is very little out there. It was a pretty big track in its day (Home track of the Tasca cars) and had some good size events, surely somebodys got some old pics. Can anybody help me out here? I'd really like to see some from the early 80's. Thanks
No pics, but it was the first strip I ever visited. Went there in high school in '67 or '68 and watched the Lil Red Wagon and Hemi Under Gl*** pop wheelies through the quarter. Like they say, "good times" Rick
Tomorrow night (JUNE 22) is the Connecticut Drag Strip Reunion show in Wallingford, Ct. housted by CSRA. Turns out about 300 cars and many old Dragway cars., old racers with photo albums and lots of stories.
Thanks for the tip on the reunion. After seeing what the Dover guys have done with there website it would be nice to do something similar with CT dragway. I cant believe that there are only a handful of pics from that place. Its like it closed and was instantly forgotten, lost in drag racing history. And the track is still there! To bad, it was a great track.
I have seen tons of pics from CT dragway. I own the stephens pontiac C/stock firebird RAIV car. theres a great possbility for a website there just need to getin touch with the right people.
Every year CSRA has a Slide Show night of nothing but Connecticur Dragway photos. There has to be thousands of photos shown over the years. You just need to find someone like Dino who set up the Dover Drag Strip website.
I have some 8mm movies (not super 8) that I took at the Charleston RI drags and CT drags in the early 60's. I am hesitant to let them out of my hands but also don't want the history they might represent to be lost. The vehicles I seem to remember but can 't be sure they are on film were the Tasca Ford, Yankee Peddler, a blue pontiac ventura, and Don Gartlets. There also was a little A Gas Angela that was towed by a Ford coupe that broke and the guys run the tow vehicle instead. (That one may have been at Charleston.) One idea was to transfer them to a CD/DVD but I have no idea how. Time and money are limited so I can't do it myself and can't afford to have someone else do it.
I would be very interested in seeing your film. My dad raced at Conn dragway and Charleston RI back then. (I grew up in East Haddam.) Why don't you find out how much $$ it would take to convert those movies over to dvd (in a way that makes you comfortable) and let me/us(HAMB) know. I think I/we might be able to help you out.
When I was 8-12 yrs old (1968-1972) I tagged along with my brothers to CT Dragway. My oldest brother took hundreds of pictures! He thinks he still has the pictures in storage. If he does, I'll make them available.
