Projects 33 Ford 5 window coupe build - 50's style

the 33 is now completely apart. I have the body on a special dolly I made years ago for 33-34 Ford coupes, and the plan is to continue with the metalwork on it until the primer stage. Will post more pics when progress is made. I took the ch***is apart as well, so won't be able to get any pics until it starts to go back together. Thanks guys for the interest.

 

I have the body flipped upside down now, and am doing all the welding on the underside. With a chanelled body, there is a lot of welding to do. You can see the metal I added to the subrails to get the body over the frame. At the rear of the floor, I put in a four inch step. This keeps all the stock points of contact intact between the floor and body shell.

 

Your 33 will look killer when finished. I love unchopped, channeled 33/34's with a deuce grill! If you have anymore pics of the ch***is with the Caddy in it, I would like to see them. As I'm in the middle of putting a early Rocket Olds in my 33 5 window coupe.

Looking good,, Makes me want to work all night on my 32 / old race car. Hope mine turns out half as good as yours.

 

With two projects on the go, work seems to progress slowly. Another factor is that I have three cars in a two car garage. With a 12 foot ceiling, the solution seemed to be to install a four-post hoist. Found one locally for a decent price, so can now put the coupe up on the hoist. Makes it feasible to work on more than one project at a time. So I threw the 33 ch***is together, put the body on it and put it up in the air. Let the work begin....make that resume!

The ch***is has a 40 Ford rearend on a 40 spring with a modified 33 rear crossmember. Am using a chromed dropped axle that I got for $50 about 15 years ago. Ever glad I got that lucky!

The deuce shell makes it perfect. I really dig the way the frame flows up from the body too. nice eye, man! Keep up the quality work!

 

I have been working on this project a lot this summer, and the car is a roller now. The doors open and shut, and so does the trunk lid, so that is good! Would have made more progress except for the fact that I am also rebuilding a 53 ford convertible. Hope to have paint on the 33 coupe soon, and yes, it will be primer.

 

Here's a shot showing the firewall modification to allow a 1953 Cadillac 331 to fit, and the 56 F100 steering setup.

 

I love your car. I hope your going to run taller rear tires!?!? If so I hope to see them on there soon, W/big n' littles that car is going to look that much sweeter!!!

yep, the tires on now are all 600-16, and are just on for the build stage. I will run bigger ones on the rear for sure.

Here's a picture of my 34 Coupe from the '50"s with the 32 grill shell.

 

Grate job it's alot of work.I have a 39 coupe to build it was a old 60s short track car.

 

I've always been partial to 33's, since my dad used to have a full-fendered sedan. I really wish more people would do the coupes fenderless, especially the 5-windows like yours, they just look killer.

Aviator, what's the story on your great lookin' coupe?

 

Here's a better shot of the F100 steering set up. Took a lot of work on the steering box and some re-drilling of the frame to get it to fit. Still have to deal with shortening the shaft about 4 inches, but want to see how the setup works first.

 

Here's another shot showing the channel - it is basically the width of the frame, so more at the front of the body than the back. I could not find any articles on channeling a 33-34 Ford coupe in the hundreds of 50's car magazines I have collected, so I had to figure it out as I went along.
