Living the American dream in Tx

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 38nash, Sep 20, 2009.

  1. Hi
I am from North Norway and I have been a member for some years, last year I realized my dream about buying a house in the USA.

I bought an old house from 1920 in Cranfills Gap Tx and I love it here, great people, laid back lifestyle and a lot of old cars around:cool:

Cranfills Gap has a lot of people with Norwegian heritage, so I feel almost like being home.;)

Last week I bought me a low miles 64 Bel Air , so I have something old too drive around with.
My friend Scott did some pinstriping on it, so it looks a little more personal.

Some pics of the house and the 64:)

Big Pecan trees on the property

Last Saturday I was at a car show in Gatesville and had a great time, next Saturday, I will go too Comanche.

Welcome, I just sold my '58 Chevy Apache to a fella in Norway, it left on the boat last week. Crazyyyyyy!!! Now you're here, Texas has tons and tons to offer.

So what made you decide on TX, and what made you decide on Cranfills Gap?

  5. Its a long story, I am kind of sick retired, (yes, that possible in Norway);) , I am mercury poisoned, anyway, we decided for Tx and search on the internet for Norway and Tx and it showed up, Clifton "The Norwegian capital of Texas":)

Welcome ! I'm a fan of old houses especially with similar porches. Looks like a nice spread with plenty of shade. I lot of people have bought property with the falling US dollar that could not afford to live here before (don't know the story) and I'm happy you appreciate it here.

Keep yourself hydrated during the summer. You may not be used to the heat and it can be killer. Educate yourself of snakes, scorpions and spiders. Keep the flags flying and CONGRATS !

  7. I have loved American cars all my life, has a 76 Buick Electra as my daily driver back home, but I have too other economic priorities , since the gas is more than 8$ a gallon:confused:

  8. Thanks:cool:
I bought it last year when the dollar was low compared too the Norwegian Kroner.

I have a nice wife, that lets me stay over here 6 weeks twice a year , or maybe she is happy too get rid of me:D

  9. Some pics from the last weekend, when we were on our way too the Gatesville Cruzin Cruizers Car show.

Welcome to Texas. Cranfills Gap is a cool little town, I'm sure you've run into Kenny Reierson and his boys out there, them Reiersons are good people.

Cranfills Gap, man you can't get much more Texas than that. My college roommate was from Meridian, just down the road, and my mom was born near Gatesville. Beautiful part of the greatest state. Welcome.

Just one question for you, do you like lefse, make lefse, or both? (I'm a both kinda guy 1/4 Norwegian, Minnesota Native).

And IKEA's swedish meatballs aren't too bad either (they're not my mom's, but they're not bad)

    Welcome to TX.

  23. Thanks everbody:)

I f you ever are in this area, come by and have a beer.

I live right on Hwy 22.

I actually like the quesedias , better than "lefse" ;)

Swedish meatballs with mash potatoes is gooood.

But thats a Swedish specialty , the Norwegian one is Kjottkaker , its like a hamburger , but smaller and thicker.
