moving the bands is a must. The bands last year like being on the "main stage"... but it just doesnt work for the show. Only a tiny part of the show can hear them. We'll see about bringing in a flatbed bandshell and putting it in the main show field. Someplace where band and fans can be in the shade.

1 day vs. 2 days... Personally I'm a fan of 1 day shows. I'm feel like hammered shite after putting on a show and the idea of getting up at 4am the next day and doing it all over again is not that appealing. :D
The upside is it allows for some new ideas... we had a small turn out for the Sunday swapmeet, but damn, there were a TON of good parts. I know friend that spent $3k on GREAT stuff...vintage speed parts, rare sheet metal and such. I got a pretty bitchin George Barris Slingshot Chopper Trike Mini-Bike!!!! I'd like to see LOTS more of that and a 2 day show is really the only way to do it. I'm already talking with some other swapmeet promoters to make the Billetproof swap a pretty big deal.

We'll take all the suggestions into consideration for the 1vs2 discussion, and work it out pretty soon. Its gotta make sense on many levels to do it.

The rules haven't changed??? So they always let in cars with billet wheels how about all the fender less cars with disc brakes there was also a BMC chopper let in the show plus some late sixies cars you need to read the rules again..

cutoff year for bikes has always been a little fuzzy... and there have never been enough bikes at the show to make it a BIG deal. There has always been a "Shovel and before" limit on HD's... euro/jap bikes have been kinda up to individual cases. Is it traditional and not TOO new? Then its cool. Roughly early 70's done up in a traditional 60's-70's style is cool.

VW's havent every really been a problem.. in fact we've had some pretty NICE ass-engined-kraut-wagens in the past couple of years. The cream and black bus this year? NICELY done, built by the young owner and driven up from L.A. just for the show.

early japanese cars? The #1 oldest Toyota in the country is in San Fran. I know the owner and have been trying to get him to bring it to the show for a while now. He doesnt know how it will be received.... its a great car, a 1958 Toyopet Crown.

I like this show granted I have to sneak in but I really liked the mix yea the style kings had their name backed up! I loved the 2 door under construction kaiser I have seen more two door kaisers this year than in the last ten! I felt the vendor area was kinda light I dont know why I am pretty sure it was the same size. My biggest complaint though was on the way home passed a flat black 55-56-57 chevy truck outa gas. I circled back to see if the guy needed anything and he said he had been sitten there watching rods and customs go by and I was the only one that stopped! WTF I was in a line of a few cars and biked and everyone of them just blew on by. the guy was cool and AAA was already on the way but totally sucks guys.......cmon help a brotha out! pix to follow

Bitching about Billetproof is like bitching about the HAMB. there are allot of retards here on the HAMB and allot of gay cars. but no one ever starts a thread to bitch at Ryan, about all the lame people, stupid threads, and gay cars, why? because its not is fault people are idiots. hes simply created a place for you to come hang out, the same with Billetproof, if the idiots take over its not Alans fault, why? because he just created a time and a place to come hang out. It didnt feel like goodguys to me. I had a booth there too, and not many people "got" the legion spl. NO ONE looked at the trans tunnel, or the floor, or lied down to look at the belly pan. But at Billetproof people "got it" and were all over it, all day both days.People bitch on saturday that its not like the old Billetproof because there are to many cars, then Sunday bitch because there are not enough cars. maybe all the cool people can just go on Sunday and let the idiots go sat. see you next year (on Sunday)

please dont bring your gocart tractor barstool contraption things on sunday next year, -Matt

funny that.. I'm real familiar with the rules.

I'll repost the the some thing I post EVERY year....

Do cars that shouldnt get in the show get in? Yep. Happens every year

Has this always happened? Yep. Dont believe me? Reference the Mustang at the first Billetproof.

Were the off-topic cars let in "just for the $ maaaaaaaan!!!" ?
Nope. You get about 10 seconds to look over a car, get the registration, sorted out and move on the the next car. in the course of this sometimes a car gets in that shouldnt. I'm not going to knowing let in a car that shouldnt be there just so i can spend more than the entrance fees worth of time and heart burn stamping out that fire online just hours after the show is over. Its not worth the effort. :D

Has there ever been a rule against fenderless cars with disc brakes? No. Its really funny what new rules people come up with out of the blue for Billetproof.

Should you be upset over it?
Nope. Relax, its just a car show.

Perhaps you would like to volunteer as a Gate Goon next year? I'm sure we can work you in for a stint. Its fun really. You get to see every car that comes in, and then later wonder how some cars got past you. :D

Yeah, I could have done without that as well... but its like someone with a bad haircut or tattoo...its a "hey look at me thing".... you just dont need to pay that much attention to it.

If I had time to tell him to put it away I would have... but frankly, it wasnt that big of a deal and I had other things to do. :D

didn't know there was a swap on sunday. that would have brought me back had I been able to go at all. I think that is a good idea if the 2 days is going to stay.

Check your goodie bag, there is a schedule of events with a list of events/times for both days, a list of Sat. night activities with addresses, a map, url's and phone #'s.

I had several large poster versions of the schedule posted around the fairgrounds... a great idea... next year there will be more... and they'll be bigger. :D

No worries.. and I get ya... you are right, it has changed from what it was 13 years ago. Its changed every year as its gotten bigger, its the nature of the beast.

that being said I think that this year was way more mellow that that last 3 years. Perhaps it was the 2 day reality that you didnt need to "see it all right now, ready, GO!" I dunno.

But I hear ya, no offense taken.

I rolled past the stranded guy i admit it.i felt bad too.but when you have your wife and 3 year old with you who have put up with your crazed behavior for a week before the show you gotta know when to stop pushing.im the guy who helps everyone and it gets me in alot of trouble.im glad you stopped to ask him if he was cool, cause i have been wondering.

I dunno man... there is nothing more "hot rod" to me than throwing a blower on your 1926 4 1/2 litre Bentley and setting a record at Brooklands...Or taking your Ferrari road car to Scagletti to have a lightweight hand hammered aluminum body fitted to make it faster for the Mille Miglia? Thats pretty hot rod to me..

No one sould be "offended" by a non American hot rod. Bugatti? Dual Ghia? Ferrari? Alfa? all hot rod material.

but thats just me... I've been known to race 50's Moto Guzzi's at Bonneville, so perhaps I'm a little biased. :D

The little lawn mowers going around are dangerous when your looking at cars while walking and almost get run down by a 10 year old weaving through people like their slalom skiing!

  23. And there was some guy showing me his ass when I was driving the panel too...highly dangerous :D

One of those lawnmower things had a flamethrower device on it

I love early Bugatti's and Alfa's, but I don't consider them Hot Rods, sorry. I consider "Traditional" Hot Rod material for bodies what was traditionally used here in the U.S. Ford, Chevy, Buick a.s.o. since the U.S. is the birth place of hot rodding. Sure there might have been the odd appearance of a european car on the streets of america with it's fenders removed, it's body channeled and maybe even raced on the lakes back then, but I wouldn't consider it a tradition. Just like a traditional lakester would have a bellytank from an american plane for the body and an american engine. If it was made out of a bellytank from an german plane and had a french engine in it, it would still be cool, but not traditional. Tradition to me means that some thing has been done pretty much the same way since the beginning, the odd ball or exception is not a tradition... but again that's just my two cents.
And I love old Ducatti's, the 750SS is one of my all time favorite bikes, I was lucky enough to get to ride one years ago, but I would not consider it traditional custom bike material.

Mustang happened the second year, not the first. LOL. Funny no one bitched about my stock 64 moredoor this year but I'm a loser legend for the Mustang LOL. Great show, thanks Alan And major props to the Dragoons for letting us Swanx relax this year. I think you guys can keep it. Seriously if your gonna bitch about the cars that get let in volunteer at the gate next year or shut up! I did it for 5? I think years in a row and every one up there at the gate did a great job there will always be wtf's. Letting these cars in give people something to bitch about. If they weren't let in people might bitch about something really important like a lack of free draft beer, lack of topless models, you know the rreally important stuff. I'm not really feeling the two day thing but hell its hard to bitch about more hotrod show. Good job to all thanks

Car show bitching has started to kind of annoy me... I mean, I like that there is a place for promoters to get feedback and STRONGLY believe that promoters should use and act on that feedback. However, some of the stuff on this thread is just ridiculous.

If you went to billetproof and expected a really quaint and personal 200 car show, you got something wrong with the thinkin' part of the ole mellon. I mean, a multiple thousand car show is a multiple thousand car show... It is was it is... and if you've been to any car show of size, you should know that and not expect a miracle of some kind. I mean, come on...

I suggest you look at it a different way. I have no idea what Billetproof costs, but I'll guess $5 for spectators and $25 or $30 for cars. Whatever it is... Did you get your money's worth?

If so, be happy... go again... tell your pals.

If not, think about it a bit. Why didn't you get your money's worth? Rather than blabber on about the uncontrollable, try to come up with constructive crit that will help the promoter. Communicate it respectfully and don't make childish blanket statements.

    .....

I guess my point is this... Running your mouth like a faucet and not saying anything constructive is BAD for hot rodding. It hurts shows and limits their reach.

Thinking before your type or talk, helps hot rodding. It improves shows, reach, the environment, etc... It's important... Just as important as the promoter with his ears on and his ego in check.
