Permission to access? I'm betting you mean, permission to start or reply to a thread. Moderators are the only ones who can do that. These threads have been cleaned up and locked down so they are available for easy reference and stay clean. Think of it as a library. If you want to post a tech thread, post it on the main board. If you have a question about a tech thread, PM the person who started the thread or post the question on the main board.
The tech section, just like the Friday Art Section are read only sections. These posts were active on the main board for a long time then once a Tech or Friday Art Show thread runs it's course it is moved by a mod to the archive section for easy reference. Being an Alliance member or not has no bearing on this.
I'm beginning to think we should get rid of the archives and move all of those posts into the main forum, but set the appropriate prefix...
you don't have to cater to the ignorant. they are fine where they are at. this site is truely special ryan. people need to spend time and learn and understand the features you have put in place. i had second thoughts when you introduced the social groups, then realized how they could keep off topic stuff from the main board. i wouldn't change a thing.
He's not ignorant... Sometimes it just seems like it would be more natural to do it that way... And with the prefixes, they would still be easy to find.
yeah, poor choice of words on my part. again. but i stand by the rest. there are those on here who won't take the time to fully understand the way this board operates. correct me if i'm wrong, not all tech makes it to the archives. plus, when they are moved to the archives, they are editted and streamlined. using a prefix to pull up tech posts will bring up all posts, some archive worthy, some not. then any mis-information contained that might have been editted out might cause confusion. i think the system is fine the way it is. only thing i might change is if someone really has new information to add to a tech post, that they could pm that info to the tech archive editor for review as to whether it's worthwhile to add it to the archived thread. but i agree any questions should be pm'd to the original poster.
Sometimes when looking through the archives I might see something I may not have thought of. If they were in the main section youd have to search for them, and may miss something you wernt thinking of specifically. I kinda see it as a "greatest hits" of the hamb. ... just a thought.
I know I have not been here that long but i would have to say i agree, it makes it much easier to look up and research things, but hey that is just my humble opinion
