No problem with me waiting. Just hurry up ok? lol For something as good as this I dont mind waiting at all. Have I ever told you about my friendship with Phil Hill and our discussions regarding LCP?
I have been very fortunate to have become friends with what in my eyes are some of the greatest racing legends in automotive history and one of those fine gentlemen was none other than Phil Hill. Phil needs no introduction whatsoever with his many championships and auto racing historical career. There are many but two of my most memorable memories of Phil both took place on the very same day. My son Will and I spent the day at Infineon Raceway visiting with Phil and since this was the first time my son had the pleasure of being with Phil in person, naturally he was asking him lots of questions. After listening to Phil reminisce many a wonderful race memory my son spoke up and said, "What an honor it has been to meet someone like you who has won so many championships, great races, endurance races and so on." But Phil put his hand on Will's shoulder, leaned over with a huge smile on his face and said, "Yeah, but I never won a 25 hour endurance race like your father did," (Referring to me winning the United States Air Force 25 Hours of Thunderhill.) Phil was a gentleman and he cared as much about hearing about other drivers victories and stories as he did his. More importantly he was all about making those around him feel as special as they made him feel. Then my son asked, "Phil, of all the championships, endurance races, and victories, is it possible to choose which any single one that stands out or that is more special than all the others? To my surprise, without any hesitation Phil said, "Without a doubt the single most exciting race in my entire racing career was La Carrera Panamericana. (This conversation came before I raced in La Carrera Panamericana.) Later that same day we went for a stroll through the paddock which was filled with historic race cars many of which had racing pedigrees. We came upon a beautiful Ferrari from the 60's era which was on display in front of a motor home complete with a placarded giving specific technical jargon details of various races it had competed in. There was a man seated in a folding chair near the car and when he noticed our interest in the car he quickly came over and began telling us all about the car. He began telling us that this car had won this race and that race and this championship and so on but it wasn't until he said "Phil Hill drove this very car in numerous races back in the 60's...." that I realized the guy didn't even realize that this was Phil Hill standing right here in front of him. Phil and I looked at each other and Phil grinned as the guy just kept on talking. As the man kept on talking Phil leaned over and whispered, "I have never seen this car in my entire life." I cracked up but then I asked him, "Phil, why didn't you stop him and tell him who you where and that you have never driven that car?" Phil said, "Who am I to ruin that man's day? Besides, who ever sold him that car probably made up all those stories so why upset him? Let's just leave him alone with his car and let him enjoy being here." That's just the kind of man Phil Hill was... He was a man's man, a gentleman racer and it didn't always have to be all about him because he cared about everyone else too. What am I doing wrong? I Cant seem to post a photo. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iBxAzFjPTx...h/DSCF1995.JPG
What am I doing wrong? I post photos all the time using the photo attachment link above but this one seems to be diffferent. Usually when I click on one on other sites or blogs, it takes me to a "browse" file which allows me to choose from my own computer but with is one it ask for an HTTP file. But when I use an HTTP file all that appears is a box with a red X in it. So what am I doing wrong and can I use something from my browse file or not?
Thank you Sled! From this side of the border, Mexico appears to be a black hole, where cars may enter but can never escape! Actually, come think of it, I've driven an Isuzu Trooper through mexico to Honduras and back, so I've crossed plenty of borders somehow but I had an american title. But when I crossed back into the US the guy just waved me through, no dogs no nothing! That was in Arizona and in 2000 though. I had a harder time coming back from Canada a few years ago, those guys were such dicks. Anyway thank you for breaking that down and telling us how it really is! I saw a few classic cars, but only a few, you must really know how to find them! Much appreciated! Sean
Scrape,yes...there are some Willys around...not many as i would, but im tryin to buy since more than a year an original 40 coupe, stock conds and solid...another guy i know owns a street rodded 40 coupe also, all done...there are couple more around. I did publish some pics of a customized 41 Willys candy apple red if you look way back in this same thread... Willys was imported in Mexico from the same actual Harley Davidson family back in the day... Sled
Gary, thanks for the great racing stories and actually is an honor for me that you're takin your time to post here your wonderful life adventures.. Feel free to post as much you want... In my computer i can see your photo with the great Phil Hill...it works here! thanks Sled
Johnny1920,welcome ...glad actually to show things from a positive persepctive, cause sometimes for me is very frustratring to try to explain against so much misinformation.. Again, there are many people around wich exported cars from here to US,so there are different opinions for sure..i know by direct experience that works perfectly out... Is more, couple years ago i sold like 9 VERY expensive cars to a VERY famous US car dealer and all went super smooth...these cars are now in US in prestigious private colecctions and the owners are happy with them. I don't want to mention any names here but if somebody wants to know can PM me and ask...im sayin let's cut this crap and think positive about the whole thing...again im exporting cars worldwide and never had a single problem either... Ok,back to the fun side now....Sled
Scrape, couple months ago a friend told me he saw a sort of Willys coupe 40/41 body/chassis bucket sittin in a very bad area,on the way to visit a guy in jail ...area is north of DF,already Estado de Mexico there.. I have to ask again what happened ,you just made me remind it ..Sled

Test.... Thanks! I never noticed the additional option box way down there. Most sites you simply click on the photo attachment box above. Now all I need to do is figure out how to make them larger.
More from Sled: Ok,back on topic finally...recently i've been superbusy on so many fronts and i delayed quite few times the chance to post here ,but here we go... Time ago a friend o mine told about one guy in town that has quite some bikes layin around...so,after many phone calls and such we finally could go there ,luckily very close by, and this is some of the stuff i could see...Man,he had many bikes in exellent conds just collecting dust... And i mean real collectible stuff. He get most of those from a local bike dealer (close friend of him) so when the bikes were unsold were passed at low prices, and the great thing...almost brand new, unsold!! So,he get some boxer Zundapps, BMW,Ariel Square Four ,A cool Sunbeam and so on...Not to mention the cool 57 Ford vert sittin there...another case of stuff that will never be restored sadly...unless sold to somebody that will... What i did'nt know that he had also some old in another werehouse that im gonna on next posts...you never know whre they are,eh?
Message from Sled: Ok,here the following junk from the guy above...checkin out the pics myself i cant believe the great quantity of money just sittin and wastin this guy has....i mean,he never ever restored anything and there are a good couple cars that can be put on the road without much effort but no vision at all here...as usual he's old already and the sons they will just throw stuff away...sad ,really.Yeah, nothin is for sale..tipycal!More to go fellas.....Sled
Sled: Well, some more wasted stuff here..a bit of everything, european cars and bikes, nothin will be restored anyway...i hope they can see the light one day....who knows? There will be some Un-Hamb friendly stuff just to make some purists freakin out too,ah,ah,ah
Sled: I know ,i know...is not Hamb friendly but for the excitment of the purists here how in the hell this guy can leave a 190SL like this??I dont get it...as far i can see this car is quite solid and with little work will drive as a clock....ok,there are some strange people around,no doubt!! No,dont ask...is not for sale.Guy said nothin is for sale...he plans to restore em all in this or the next life he will have....Sled
Well,i think it really IS ....the SL is super complete and just filthy to me,i really dont get it why the guy does'nt clean it up and have fun with it...but hey,it's his car...what we do know?? He told me his plan to restore cars and i immediately understood he knows nothing about it..he wanted do do the whole drivetrains to ALL The cars he has at the same time(30 or more)...and then the whole bodywork ..yeah ,right!! Sled
With all due respect, over the years many times I have heard people questions like "How can someone let a car like that sit around?" Sure there are times when for whatever reason we believe it looks bad but while I can understand them asking the question it's important for them to realize people who own a "special" car and have it stashed away may not have the money or desire to deal with it right now. They may have plans for later, or other more important things to deal with at the time. Many times they keep a car for it's sentimental value from childhood memories, and so on. I remember a time in my life when I had two of my Shelbys that sat in my driveway for years. They were covered with dirt, the paint faded, tires flat and so on. People used to knock on my door all the time and leave notes asking is the cars were for sale. There was also times before I had my warehouse when my old car collection I inherited from my father sat outside including a Rolls Royce, some Model T's, 37 Chevy Pickup and so on and people didn't understand why I allowed them to sit. I was a young guy and didn't have the cash or desire at the time to deal with them. On the other hand I would never have let them go at any price. Years later when I had the time and money I did what was needed. Another example... I was the original owner of my 68 Shelby GT500 and I had driven it over 300,000 miles before I let it just sit for years. It had lots of sentimental value and I didn't care what others thought about how it should be taken care of. It was mine and that was all that was important. Today it is restored back to original condition and has won many of the biggest shows in the U.S. not to mention I still drive it. The point is, when you see cars sitting some place getting little attention, there may be a good reason or special circumstances as to why. Here is a photo of my 68 GT500 taken by world reknown car photographer Ron Kimble; http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iBxAzFjPT...vP-LcE/s1600-h/Garys+Shelby+by+Ron+Kimbal.jpg
