Everybody knows that all street rods ran in the 10s. At least, that what I hear from everyone I talk to. What does yours run?

I guess I really don't care how fast it is. It's just fun driving it every chance I get.

The short answer is nobodys car is as fast as they THINK it is...

My car, on the other hand is a fast sumbitch. I beat a guy who lost by a fender to a guy who had a 9 second race car. And that guy was even on his NOSS...so, basicly, my car must run at least a low nine.

I though I was really tearing ass down the expressway one morning. I happened to have my GPS with me, turned it on and found out I was doing 75 mph. I think the sensation of speed with an open car, with open headers, just a few inches off the pavement is really disproportionate to how fast you're actually going.

Ssshhhh, you can't call your car a street rod anymore.

That's funny, I live in Pa and I know of quite a few cars running around here that fit right in on the HAMB, in fact some of their owners are members, and they're running STREET ROD plates. Does any state issue a hot rod plate? Seems these owners aren't so finicky about a word when it comes time to register it.
A street rod is what everyone used to call every street driven hopped up or altered car manufactured before 1949 that was built for THE STREET. That's why there is a National Street Rod Association, and why many states issue Street Rod plates. The term hot rod was generally used to describe old cars built for racing, hence the National Hot Rod association.
But things have changed, and all of a sudden street rod ain't cool anymore (and we all know how important it is to be cool) so us old farts must strive to keep up with the changes so as not to offend the delicate senses of the new guys who are trying to pretend they are old guys. It's all very confusing, kinda like all the silly games you played in high school, but with cars. I guess when it comes to being cool, some things never really change.
It just amazes me how quick SOME car guys are to turn on each other over the simplest little things. Divided we fall.

BUT ragsie, this is the HAMB, so call it a hot rod! (and if you really want to fit in, spell custom with a K);)

  28. You can say street rod but you can't say the R word:D.

My Merc runs pretty good I guess sept it's kind of street roddish.
Like a hot Mustang or Camaro. Handles suprisingly well.

If its a "hot/rat/resto/nostalgic/oldskool/new-stalgic" /ROD & it has plates & is driven on the street i guess" street rod" covers it all!!lol

PS I think there should be a "glossary of terms" for the HAMB!! A "what you can & can't say" section. That way when i mention a 1971 GTO rat rod with bondo/ac/ PS/Automatic/ with JC whitnet spinners?GPS a CB radio & Billet oldsmobile valve covers on a "traditonal chevy 350" i can discribe it correctly!!lol
OH yeah & one of those tachs with the orange lites

  30. A Hot street rod custom with out so much rat in it.
