Really nice Steve! I like the way you relocated the steering box. The firewall looks great as well!

Thanks Duane. I hope you are building that 34 Ford five window coupe, if you didn't sell it. It was a very good project.

Couple more pics. I've had fun building this channeled rod. Wonder why more guys don't try the old (but not lost) art of channeling a body over the frame.
In my case, I used the frame as a jig, and built the floor with subrails first. Then the body was built over the floor. By building the body out of pieces, I did not have to cut the floor out of a good body. A lot of work to be sure, but it can be done.

Time for an update. I have been doing a lot of work on the coupe lately. Getting the body ready for paint, should go on in the next couple of weeks. It will be flat black, just like the coupe that is the inspiration for my build. That car was built in 1957 in Utah, and still exists today. I first saw a pic of it in 2000, and have collected parts ever since. The 53 Cad motor is being built now - all the machining is done, and it just needs to be put together. Will run an Edelbrock 3-2 set-up.

    Will post updated pics soon!

Looks great but I think the '32 grille looks hokey on a 33-34.

exactly. the leading edge of the cowl is sloped with a matching slope on the grille. 32's are straight with the grille shell matching. it's called automotive styling ford was pretty good at it.

Here are a couple of pics of the car that inspired my build. As I understand the history of the car, it was built in Utah in 1957, and featured in Rod & Custom magazine in the early 60's. My car does not follow this car exactly, but it will use the same basic style and drivetrain. Sure would like to know where this old rod is today.

Your 5w just keeps getting better and better, Steve. Will you have one of the coupes at deuce days?

Thanks Tinmann. No, I won't have one of my coupes at Deuce Days, but I will go down to check out the "street rods" and hope that a number of traditional rods show up.

I have been doing a lot of work on the coupe lately, and am getting all the parts ready now for assembly of the chassis. I promise a lot of pics to come in the next couple of months - this build is going to be driveable by summer!
Here is the frame with some paint on it finally. The 53 Cadillac motor is being machined now. I have purchased all the parts I need to complete the build except tires, and they are next on the list of things to get.

Here's my buddy Lorne - he built the 53 Cadillac longblock that's going in the coupe. Thats his work sitting on the engine stand. Lorne knows old Cad motors - that's a 54 Cad 331 in his Model A tudor on a 32 chassis.

Work is continuing slowly on my coupe, but I hope to post more progress pics soon.

Been making some progress on the coupe lately. The body is basically ready to go, it has the distressed flat black look I wanted. Here are some current pics.
Still working on the chassis, when the trans is done (Cad-Lasalle three speed) it will start to go together.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Its been a long haul but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with this project now. Most of the chassis is painted and ready to assemble, will post pics of it soon.

Steve, I'm glad one of us is making progress on a coupe. Life got busy and mine is in the corner patiently waiting for me to get back on it.

    Looks great.
