Groucho's right that's the same story Walt Prey told me about Gypsy Rose.. Remember, white painted brake drums, frames and under the fenderwells ?, lights in the wheel wells ?, 8 tracks with a matchbook to keeping the tape from skipping & 8 track tape cases ?, trip lights (colorbars)?, beer tap shifters ?, your "ladies" garter hanging from the mirror ?, Pesco pumps, ......... ?????
I love this thread, reminds me of 23rd street. There used to be lots of lowrider shops in Richmond CA back in the day. I remember always wanting a lifted pearl white 74 Monte with red pin striping with 5:20s pinner whites and 14x7 reverse tru spokes and inside og White interior with dark red piping and last but not least my chain steering wheel. Every year there would be this cruise in El Sobrante that was pretty cool too.
I remember! ...the late 60's-early 70's look. I think I will paint the rear end and gas tank on my Acadian white. The lowrider look of the 60's-70's is great! ...let's see more pics.
Here's some old articles I found while digging through my magazines recently. Car Craft, March 1972. Hot Rod, April 1974.
Just as historians have proven that the pachucos true founding father was Ciudad Juarez native German Tin Tan Valdez, it has also been proven that the first lowrider originated in Juarez in the late 1930s. don't know how well they searched history in this article, in the first paragraph they say TIN TAN is a Juarez native, wrong he was born in Mexico city, Mexico. so the source of the article is questionable.
in 1978 my bro had a 64 that looked like the cheech and chong car pictured above.almost exactly ..he traded it for a moped and we all jumped in to cruise hollywood..hit a bump rear coil fell out and we were stuck..funny as hell
I love Andy's old ride...It ruled me for years as a kid. Thats what i'm doing with my stock rims & swap them out with the Tru Classics every once in awhile just to play with the look.
Yes they are...i dont have any other pics and when i was trying to clone the car a few years back i could never find a full pic of it but always loved that touch to it.
Let's keep this thread going with more pictures! Here are a few photos I scanned from my friend's uncle's photo album from Salinas area lowriding back in the day... <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/low-03.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/low-elco.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/low-05.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/low-04.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/low-02.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/impala02.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/impala01.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/glass.jpg> <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/blurry.jpg> Enjoy.. and post more! -Juan
