  1. At the auction yesterday at the Petersen. I was pretty damn impressed when it went for a supposed $29K a few yrs ago when it was pretty famous. But, wow, was I impressed to see it go for $50K yesterday after fading from the lime-light (or did it?). Anyway, big money for sure! Maybe I should've put a motor in my Deuce:confused:

Your 32 had as cool and rare a motor in it as it could. For the money you got for the 12 port, it could't be replaced with anything more unique.Rudys truck brought the money because it is a landmark build.

That is the truck that made everyone and thier fucking brother wanna build a "Rudy Truck". Who knows...maybe someday we will all be kicking ourselfs in the ass for not buying it for 50K back in '09.

Looks like it's been restored back to it's original version.

It brought 50K because the HOOKERS are back on the doors.

If you think that's a rat rod, you need to study more.

It was the first of it's kind to get any press and it was done with some nice bits, like that motor. It was radical, without trying. It's not a bobber, it's not a rat, it's just a fenderless truck. I see many things I would do differently, if it were my build. I don't think I would change a thing if I were to buy it that way. It commands attention and top prices, hell, even this thread, because it has well known provinance.

That's about the only way to build those trucks, I've seen many bad attempts, they should have fenders and a useful bed as a pick-up was intended, but they can be made into pretty neat hot rods like Rudy's. I am actually try to build one myself as I've had the parts around to do it. Lets hoe I can get close to right on the proportions, stnace, etc. its not easy to do it right and look good. $50K seems pretty steep for it though. Glad to see people still have that kinda money to throw around.

I bet the guy in the midwest who bought it a few years ago & painted a #5 on each door & changed the wheels is kicking himself right now.

I remember when that Lincoln Zephyr sold for $500k. Next day every Zephyr on the planet went up $10k. I hope this doesn't happen to all the fenderless rodded trucks out there.

Could have bought TWO of these and had enough left over for a trip to Hawaii and still has $ left over...

  14. I never understood WHY a guy would pay so much money for a milestone truck like that......and change it. I thought that was a bad move from the second I saw it. Hell, he shoulda "bagged" it too while he was at it:eek:

I'd never consider that truck a Rat Rod. It's as much a Hot Rod as anything else out there.

You don't need an engine, Groucho. The Rudy truck wouldn't start and had to be pushed across the stage yesterday.

It is so a rat rod, look, it's got a GM alternator sitting right up on top of the motor.

SEE I told you guys it's the new model "A" , thats what a r-t rod is supossed to look like , build them right , and put the right parts on them, and they can even be worth some money. another example is the Sammy bucket one of my club members built several years ago. it was done right with a 6-2 x-1 manifold , it pulled close to 24k, I still dont know how the word r-t rod turn into a dirty word, with my thread on those trucks , I was trying to instill tolarance and guidance to the guys that want to build these kind of cars, if our forfathers had been closed minded in the past , hot rods would not exist today , I still remember the days when the original weezer guys would call hot rodders "butcher's " but anyway that just my point of view. My hellos to Groucho , I had a blast with you at Ventura.

That's a very cool truck, I love the style (rat rod, truckrod, whatever you want to call it, it matters little) but $50k??? Sometimes I wonder if some people have more money than brains.

  28. I don't know about landmark. Maybe some sort of a Milestone car? Anyway, it just came on the scene with a lot of thunder. It just looked "right", and got a ton of well deserved attention. It also started a LOT of "copy cat" builds. Everone knows the Rudy truck with the girls painted on it. I saw it at my 1st Paso in 2001, and thought, man that truck's gonna turn heads

Please don't tell me Harry Bradley's LaJolla sold for only $22,500? I just re-read the article he wrote on this car for Super Customs and Hot Rods circa 1985. Just a killer custom.
