OK Speedway called and they are going to take care of my problem. Sending me a new cast pair and as soon as I send in the old set they will refund me my money.

Have also had issues with spring perches that were my fault but they are going to help with that too. This is the second problem I have had with them and they took care of it right away. The last was a weld in bung that had bad treads shipped new one right away.

I have bought lots of parts from them and have been very happy with them. Plus they backup what they sell.

I only started the thread so if anyone else was having this problem they could look and catch it.

I think this needs to be in bold, and kept flowing. Not all of their stuff is the very top quality-but they cater to a wide crowd with varying needs. What matters to most of us (glad you are safe) is that Speedway stood up and stood behind their products.

Think the main thing is YOU got lucky,,someone who may not look there car over from time to time may not.. It would seem these parts are ones that should very carefully be thought over and looked at before buying

    Ditto what Tman said.............
I have 4 customers cars/trucks that will have to come in for an inspection now.
This isn't the same thing as a faulty wiper motor this is a serious safety issue and if Speedway was on top of this they would send out inspection flyers before something serious happens..............................
Thanks for the heads up it has to be brought to everyones attention, how many thousands are out there being used every day?

    Mr S.,
I have the same brackets on my roadster. I was thinking about the twist of the axle and resulting bracket loads, due in part to the "split wishbone" mounting issue. Best example that comes to mind might be; when driving over a speed bump at an angle. Opinions?

True, but I bet that a more thought out design would even allow for a few thousands slack to be tightened up without stressing the part to failure. Look at the bottom ear of the batwing in question, thinness aside, where it's welded looks like an invitation to a severe stress riser. Which IS where it cracked and split.

    Ouch.

Glad Speedway is dealing with this....the cast deals certainly look a bunch better, hopefully they are tuff!

Thanks for the heads up. Threads like this always get my attention, as most of us are running similar if not the same parts on our cars. I have the cheap Speedway batwings, but I will be checking them over for cracks when I get home.

Great thread Larry especially since i will be getting front end parts soon. I have an ace in the hole because Rusty is guiding me in every direction and I trust him completely. A whole of people laugh about doing a walk over before we used to ride bikes and its the same with old cars.

BTW.. people dug when you left the show on Saturday... If i had a dollar for every head you turned, then i would be finishing my ride very quickly :~))

Not sure who made mine ,,but just what I was looking for,,upright is 3/8 thick and mounting bosses are 1/2 inch,,and they are labeled left and right as there seems to be an angle on them bringing the bottom of the hairpin inward..Neat lil pieces

theres an angle on the subject Batwings too.

The only thing i dont like about the ones pictured here(by little wing) is that they use clevis type attachments.(to each his own, im sure theres no problem with this type).I would rather have the larger bushing and bolt going thru both sides of the Batwing//(my prefrence)
the speedway setup could be improved upon and work well..they just cut a corner., and one that could come back to bite them..or some unsuspecting driver

Very likely...most things are a domino affect, however, considering the real world out there, and the conditions in it, wouldn't it be nice if critical things were built, perhaps, just a bit above bare minimum requirements, for use in ideal circumstances?

I'm with Doc & LittleWing. Such a critical part should not be left to chance.

I have a good friend who works 250 days a year (somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 hours) as an auto mechanic. He has several hotrods, incl. a 450-horse 383 to 904. He told me QUITE recently, "Jim, don't believe anything people tell you. All the GOOD steel is gone. And don't buy anything made in Mexico or China. It's shit." (end quote)

yet another reason to be running split bones:D i was wondering how much gap he had before he tightened up the perches...?

I dont think there is a post on the angle..but there is an angle on the on the originally shown batwing too..for it to be possitioned correctly on its side of the vehicle, either it be right or left. ( I thought that is what you were refering to on your last post)

i went back and looked at the picture you posted, I think we are talking about 2 different things? maybe?

Not to veer from the topic,or the stainless parts used-but I too have used speedway parts,in "kit form" and have found this....On batwings- Although for the steel pieces, appear to be lazer cut and nicely welded together, tollerences were "just a bit outside''-meaning they wouldn't line up for the spring perch,(far) and had to whip out the grinder to clear THEIR axle.(A LOT):eek:After calling and asking about the problem,I was told that they are massed produced, and that ANY car guy would pre fit items first.WTF? It was their damn kit,and supposed to be fine. The tech practically scolded me on the phone for painting the axle first before fitting. I let it go,as I didn't want to get into it with the guy and tell him what was up.maybe irrellivent here, but massed produced parts are sometimes way out of "spec" and are not true "bolt" on's. Just my bitch.

I bought the axle and bat wings at the same time they fit perfect. Split bones are great but for my build I needed to be able to change the rake for high speed runs.

    Ahhh lol..ya got me..
Its my first go around with a pre war build too..
Im learning as i go, things like this I wish i found out before i sunk the dime..
the "do not buy list" would be great for guys that take on builds out of their comfort level, or era of cars they are used to without getting fucked by Mr. speedy or other sellers of shit.
we have a "do not buy from this ass hole" area in the clasifieds.

  27. Thats great there being stand up about it.

Just a note on the 'dont buy this' lise idea. Dont bash a place, bash the product. As many have pointed out these ones were not made by Speedway, just sold buy them.
