The NEW green is the OLD red dude. I was with you until you got on your tree-hugging soap box. Nothing but a bunch of junk nobody wanted.

Why there outta be a law against crushing old cars!!!

Actually it makes me a little sick as I was gonna buy a nice rust free 56 chevy wagon from mariposa. The shipping from california made it to difficult. I hope it didn't meet it's fate in that very yard!!!!

That was the MOST horrible thing i have ever watched....
Ive herd about it, but never seen it.

That is just the most F#%ked up thing people can do. Cause once these cars are gone, there GONE! People shouldnt be able do crush old cars. Thats like history, if only old cars could talk. To bad that basterd didnt sell'em and give those cars a 2nd chance at life.
He should get tossed in instead!

    So recardo,

Which exact CERCLA Superfund site was polluted by vehicles?

Because I think you're full of***** and if thats all the research you can muster before spouting off, maybe you should consider a remedial class. If the elementary school you teach at has a library skills class, ask if you could sit in on.

    Me too!

  15. If you have good prices (not ebay prices) you can sell the stuff before it gets crushed.

petroleum juices that come out of a car float on top of the water, and don't travel more than about 5' into the topsoil... Oil and water don't mix....

The by-products from making Prius batteries are a completely different story...

  16. Aren't eBay prices dictated by what people are willing to pay at a given moment?

Sort of like a live auction, actually. Sometimes you get a deal, sometimes you get boned, and sometimes there's a reserve price because the owner doesn't want to sell so cheap the scrap guy makes a profit on it.

  17. Ok when i was a kid my shop was under a white oak tree. The ground looked like asphalt. Now the grass grows very good there. There are organisms that thrive on almost everything including petrolum products. Also i used to work for a car crusher 40 years ago. My job was to run the masher also had a air impact to remove lug nuts and wheels. Actually it was a pretty fun job. If we had not crushed them they would not be worth anything today. Supply and demand! Back then a really good running car could be bought for $35.oo and would bring $60.oo crushed. I made $1.oo an hour.I would arrive at daylight and sometimes remove 4 bbl carbs and other goodies for my own use. My boss didnt care as long as they didnt weigh much. Did a lot of rare stuff get crushed? Actually most of it was mundane common cars that werent popular or had been stripped. OldWolf

It sicken's me too! About a year ago I was at the local scapper (CRG) a nationally operated recycler, and there was a 1940 Ford convert. there to be crushed. It still had the top on it, and the flathead and*******, only thing missing was the rear bumper and the rear tail lights. I stayed there for 3 hours trying to get them to sell it to me. I offered way more than the scrap price too, and yet they told me their company policy will not let them sell anything that is to be scrapped. I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, was that enuf, pissed. Needless to say, it's now a frying pan on one of your houses. Freakin' beaurocracy.

After watching it I sent it to a buddy. He called me back right away. We got in his truck and went to our local OLD car wrecking yard and took off some parts for his Edsel.

  21. Maybe you should have offered them the $10,000 or so that car would easily bring in that shape.

Anyone have a basic description of what this video is about for the dial-up challenged and those who don't want to watch it even if they do have high speed internet?

I kept expecting to see Oddjob drive up in the '64 Ranchero and haul the crushed Lincoln away...

Sad, but if nobody steps up and buys them this is what happens. Not the first to end up like this and probably not the last. Off to China to be melted and recycled into something else.

i walked through there about 1.5 yrs ago.... apparently they had crushed out most of their 30's/40's cars before we got there...

it was huge, barely visible from the hwy... the only way we found it was the glint of stainless/glass through the trees. rumor has it, the yard ceased activities in the 70's. this place was in the boonies... nestled in a bunch of hills, covered by large trees.

there was A LOT more... if you are able to dig up an address, do a google maps search and you can see just how much was lost.

we found a 65 (?) GTO shell and a 50 chev convertible roller.... lots of cars were marked SAVE... a***** ton of 4 drs, along with truly beat up junk.

there is another yard not far from this place... smaller, run by a couple people, very nice folks. IF i can dig up their nfo ill post it here... prices were very reasonable.

I couldn't get upset over the '59 wagon or whatever the car ahead of it was. If noboby in California wanted the hulks then no one is going todrive 200 -3,000 miles to save them.

We have a place nearby that was a super-fund site.

    Maybe that's what ails him!

Shit like this aggravates the hell out of me. I could care less about imports etc, but listening to that guy say "we will take your cars away and destroy them" makes me want to put HIM in the car as it's destroyed!!
*****ing do-gooder**** hole's trying to take away every damn thing that people find enjoyment in. No, i'm not supporting street racing..but that's complete********* and i hardly support that mentality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next will be YOUR hot rodded model A or 32!! seriously, think about that for a second....
Sorry for my rant...but that just really struck a nerve with me.

And the old car crushing topic that started this thread off bug's me too, but only because it*****s to see all these yards and old car's vanish..I'm a car guy, so i'd think that's a normal feeling with us..but It's a lot different than this other video.
