I would prefer to be called a Traditional Hot Rod & Custom Event Analysis. Rat Rod event promotors need not apply for my services.
I forgot about Torque Fest. Technically, Jalopy Showdown isn't in the Midwest, and the Rust Revival isn't early May.
well, suit yourself. i can't wait to get there. i've been missing going to this event for the past couple of years.
You know as well as I do peeps only have so much money to spend on events and if some budget like I do it's a certain amount per month. Decisins, Decisions...........and we are still left with NOTHING to choose from the last weekend of June or the last weekend of July every year.
i am soooo stoked for this show! Me and the girls from Bad Apple will be there with the boys and GIRL from Paddys CC! Come by and see us!
Vacation! FWIW, the Pileup was originally set in Oct to not step on anyone's toes. We set it 2 weeks after the last "big" show (DuckTail) to avoid conflicts. The Heads Up is on May 8th for similar reasons, but mainly because that's when Great Lakes Drag-a-way could fit us in and give us our own full day of racing for only the kinds of cars we wanted to see. Full control. Mwuh-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Its a bitch ... the midwest.. A-Hole hot rodders having so many shows to choose from.. who the heck do they think they are .. with their fancy cars.. and good times.. almost every weekend through the warmer months..geeze
Well you all (especially Rashy) will be happy to know that we hired an attendant to keep an eye on the "portable washrooms". No more emergency phone calls from BobK to bring more toilet paper to the car show.
The subject of the weather comes up every year, so I thought I'd beat someone to the punch. The whiners say "It's always so cold at the Pileup" Well, actually no. It's only cold half the time... or... it's warm half the time! Here's a rough breakdown 2002: drizzle off and on and cool in the 50s and 60s (80 cars) 2003: sunny, highs in the 70s (200 cars) 2004: sunny, in the 60s and 70s (400 cars; first year in Morris) 2005: overcast/cloudy, in the 50s (800 cars) 2006: sunny, in the low 60s (1000 cars) 2007: overcast, in the low 60s (1100 cars) 2008: sunny, in the 80s (1200 cars) 2009: ?
2009 Forecast is for an intact ozone layer and 1 sun rising in the east, setting in the west. We'll all know in one week for sure, though.
'08 spoiled us...We all had new jackets, and it was too warm to wear them...Looking forward to next weekend.
My wife tells me this morning, "Hey this looks like a cool show, lets go" I guess we're making the drive down...can't wait!
Speaking of weather, and I don't know if it's been posted but are canopies allowed? I was going to bring one mainly incase of rain more then worring about sun!
Hellfish, that was a cool numbers break down. Last year was definitely a little toasty. Looking forward to cool weather this year hopefully. Can't wait!
I'd rather cool down by drinking a cold beer than have to warm up by drinking hot coffee......Give me another duplicate weather-day like last year! I think last year's weather really helped out with getting the numbers up on the spectators through the gate, too.
No, there's no room for canopies. Cars only. Yeah... we need FEWER spectators and more people DRIVING their cars through the gate! Spectators just gawk and get in the way.
Friday looks nice, saturday so-so, sunday as far as the weather channel says is crap...break out the rain-x!
Would like to put out a friendly reminder that the Vagabonds are again sponsoring a Meet and Greet in the hotel parking lot Friday about 5pm. It will probably be in the Days Inn or Quality Inn parking lot. They are the first couple hotels from the fairgrounds on the west side of the road. Watch for the banner and our VagaGrill. It was a great time last year, we had easily 50+ people just hanging out. We are expecting it to be a lot bigger this year. Hang out, drink a few brews, cook some food and gear up for the pre-party! There is even rumor of live music this year. We provide the Heat, you provide the Meat. Anyone is welcome to use the grille.
