Customs HAMB Merc Club! who's in?????

i'm out. i just sold my merc

 

Man,that friggin thing is just down right UGLY!!!!!!!!!!.

 

If the price was right I'd buy it....I used to own one of the ugliest Mercs and this one
can be saved. I have a stock front clip for it.

This is proof that we need to start a "Save the Merc" foundation.

I remember your "before" pic's,and it wasn't THAT bad! I will agree...it can be saved,but would take some work!!!!!

 

Save the '89 Ford Probe wheels though. They belong hahah!!!

 

Thanks Bob, Saying that my old Merc wasn't "that" bad is one of the nicest things
anyone has said to me.... ha, ha, ha. When I saw the pics this morning, it is kinda
like looking at a car wreck.

I hate to say this but I'd like to see more pictures.

It just looks like one of those guys who puts square headlights on a 40's Chevy or 46-48 Ford,got ahold of it! hahaha...changing ISN'T customizing! I've seen sooooo many Mercs and Hotrods with Mustang mirrors,rims,interiors,Mini-Cooper headlights,Mercedes headlights,etc! I would love to have a chat with one of those guys. Bet it's the same guys who would build their own shell for their trucks,that all looked like "shithouses"! Remember those? Same guy who puts a milk crate on the back of his bike cause he doesn't want to spend the money on a REAL bike bag!

We were talking about that car the other day. The owner is a good friend of mine
and we were giving him a bad time (again) about it. The '50 has been for sale for
a long time and I've been trying to buy it. I'd like to have it take it too some shows
for shock value.

My favorite part of the car is the numbers "50" cut out of both sides of the scoop. Ha,
ha, ha.. Now that is kool!!

It is funny how this car still pops up on the right occasion...

Bob that merc looks like the one that was at the Bohuff show that was in the parking lot and all finished now!! im not sure if that is really it, but that pic gives you an idea on what the other one looked like!!!

No one can compare your Merc to Daniel's '50 at all.......I've always liked your
sled. I remember seeing ya in Wichita at the Merc/Deuce Reunion. I loved the
heavy chop and the dual headlights.

I pray that you will be able to find it.

Not to change the thread ,but Lockwood you want to get rid of those old fender skirts I'll take them off your hands !!

 

I guess 99% of the car guys will have a hard time to tell the origins of my project (yes, you can read it in the footer: -51 Lincoln Sport Sedan). The roof will be ht chopped. The -51 Merc front and the -49 Merc 2-d doors will be fitted (will add a -49/50 grille opening and an 3" extended -49/51 Merc hood, not the ugly Lincoln hood...). The engine will remain 337 Lincoln/Ford and the transmission will remain Hydramatic ("Cadillac"!). Dashboard will be mix of -51 Lincoln and -51 Merc, extension of the dash into the doors will remain Lincoln. Front seat will be modified from a 2-d 52 Ford. Fender skirts are -51 Merc. Interior stainless trim -51 Merc. Arm rests -51 Cosmopolitan. Grille -52 Meteor. Front bumper -51 Merc. Rear bumper -51 Lincoln. Tail lights -51 Lincoln (lowered closer to bumper). Head light rims -52 Merc. Front wheels are from a early 1950's Volvo Taxi (same bolt pattern as Lincoln/Merc) and the wheel covers are -48 Cadillac (the big Volvo Taxis did use the same way of fitting the caps as the Sombreros Cads). Side trim -50 Buick. No visible parts newer than 1952. Only the 3" longer front will tell it from kustom Mercs... The reason for a Lincoln? I think a 3" longer front will look better with the rear fender than the original front lenght. That one did work perfect in -49 and -50 but looks just a little short with the longer -51 rear fenders.
I have many years of work a head of me, I´ve already put 6 months of work and 15.000 USD of parts into the project, many of them NOS (+ the car itself, traded a 10.000 USD car for it...) and I will probly add 25-30.000 in parts or much more into this project... .
Merc or not, to me its my "Merc/Lincoln-dream" coming true, Im very dedicated to this car, been deep into kustoms every single minutes for over 30 years...
