MY GAWD! What a find! A lucky thing it was you who came along and not someone who wouldn't make the ***ociation or know who DS was. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE PICS...
Went through this a couple of years go. Bob Wright had 160+ images in an old box and no negatives. I almost fainted when I saw the images... all from around 1948. He gave them to me to scan and I also photographed them all so there would be negatives, a lot of work but history must be preserved. I put them all in archival pages and put them in a book for him. His wife has them now as Bob p***ed. Hopefully you will do the same. There is supposed to be a segment on the "Worlds Most Expensive Cars" this month on the Spencer Roadster and they used a couple of images Bob took at the Rose Bowl reliability run.
let me know if you see any pics with a roadster with two sets of funny pipes running up both sides billy
I agree 100%. I work for the University of Illinois Library. Believe it or not, it's a pretty big deal as far as libraries go. We have a whole department dedicated to the preservation of old materials. Photos and negatives get extra special attention. I'd recommend checking around your area for some expert help. You want to be very careful with this stuff. Let me know if you need some leads. I could ask our folks for suggestions.
Great pictures, man I love these things. Thanks for posting them. After studying the pictures below, I would conclude that the car was built by Summers and later became Vogle's car. It appears to me that the car in the first picture below is still under construction. No front tube shocks, no rear fenders, just fender brackets on the front, no louvers in the hood, and wire wheels. leads me to believe that it is a street car. Also, most everything in the first picture is pre 1950. Both pictures #2 and #3 are circa 1952 or later. These pictures are of the same car, just different iterations. The # 70 on the doors and the nailhead Buick are a dead giveaway for a Max Balchowsky race car.
Incredible!!! Keep us posted as you get more scanned and digitized. If you see any pictures of a 28-29 Model A roadster with the number 660B or 464B or "Pyle Special" on the driver side cowl pleeeeeeaaaaase give me a holler! That'd be my roadster. Have fun with your treasure. Gaters -
Is this what your looking for???? This is rare vintage here. Look at the scraggly young buck with the beard and dirty white t-shirt. Maybe you should change your screen name to Funny Pipes!!!
I always just find tuperware and cordless drills without batteries when I stop at yard sales. Lucky You! I can't wait to see more/
Sounds like a Great find Does any of those negatives show a Dash like this ? If so , please let me know . Klaz
Okay-I just added some new scans to an album I have started, better quality than the last ones. There are three shots of what was labled "Sterlings Red Car". I'm new to this posting pictures thing so for now I think anyone can go to the album, I am going back to look at the FAQ for how to get them in my post. Enjoy, and thanks for the comments.
providing i dont muff the shot...I can really lead you up the path to thinking that is 1950 something...
This is like an Indiana Jones story. The best part is that it was found by someone who respects the history that these photos can provide. Many others would have just tossed them away.
*****in'. If you can't get the negatives developed, I know where you can. PM me. it ain't cheap, but it's worth it, trust me.
