i had the same thought about the 53 buick headlights,,,in fact at the very beginning of the build (mild kustom stage),,,it did have canted buicks,,,,i think they would look great, but as you pointed out, they are too similar to the kaiser lights i think,,,,,the lincolns may work out better,,,,,i'm gonna mock up a grille cavity shape and see how it looks with the lincolns,,,,,

    Check the photoshop thread Jim.

  5. I agree with everyone on the canted Lincoln lights, They match the rest of the cars futuristic styling. I'm thinkin flowing em into a shell backed with a chrome or Gold mesh filled with clear plexigl*** rods extending out...

The way I have always heard it is -
white car = look at me.
black car = look at the car.

I´m sure it´s no accident that many Kustoms are dark colours.
    :)

I am glad you decided to ditch the Merc grille.
    Love the canted quad headlights.
The Kaiser grille is not bad, but I'm thinking it really should make something from scratch. Perhaps expanded metal and drawer pulls? I'm not a huge fan of those, but it seems to match the era of your build?

I type too slowly - Chrome Streamliner beat me to it! That'll teach me to never walk away from my computer in the middle of typing a post.

Man, I don't have anywhere near the artistic wherewithall to visualise a concept of this magnitude, but for what it's worth and whatever you decide to do with the rest of the front end, I think it'll look cooler if you keep the headlight hoods. I freakin' love this project.
    Good Luck.

Here's the rear of a Buick that might help you visualize your hood design.

I like the direction of modifying the hood. I see that hood and immediately know its a shoebox hood... It just doesn't fit with the rest of the car that makes you think "WTF is THAT???" (in a good way :) )

Is the center mounted headlight ring going to be a grille, or another headlight? If it's going to be a grille, this thing might work in there.

  19. It works for me, too, although I keep visualizing a Tucker-style rotating headlight in that center pod. I wonder how it would look if it just came to a rounded peak that continued down into the pan as a grille divider. Then for the grille, '59 Pontiac pieces used right on left and left on right (so what was the center becomes the outer edges) and the headlight area of the grille pieces trimmed off? They're aluminum mesh and would be easy to add knobs/plexi/etc. to.

I'll give it to you if you use it on the car, with the caveat that if you decide not to use it, you send it back. I was hoping to find a match to it so I could make speaker grilles out of them, but I only have this one. Says "BLO-FAN" on it which I find somewhat amusing. It's big, 12" diameter on the outside.

Let me know if you need it. I like the idea of the round center grille being flanked on either side by some horizontal grilles, like cut down '59 Pontiac grilles like rustynewyorker was saying.
