  2. What a great show! Now, I did show up at 9:30 after having a much-needed breakfast at the IHOP. The parking area out front was getting pretty full already, but we pulled right in and were in the grounds within ten minutes.

We left at 2pm because my fingers were so cold I could take no more pictures and I had spent my loose greenies at several choice vendors! Props to Mr. Weesner and Amy Clark (Ms. Metal)! I always leave as a happy customer, and they are two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.

It took us about 20 minutes to get out of the lot to Rt. 47 South... holy %#$&, what a backup of cars! There were also about two hundred people trekking across the soggy earth across the highway towards the venue. It was nuts! We were just glad to get away clean with no real hassle. I'm sorry it went poorly for others.

The Chrome Czars and their red-shirted volunteers put on an amazing show as always. I will be back again next year for the seventh time. Thanks for all the hard works guys and gals!

However, I will be there early next year!!!!

I just got home from the Pileup and had a fantastic time. This was my fifth year. We got up there on friday afternoon and had a great time down town at the Red Cent. this morning we were in line at 7:15am and by 8:15 the participants were double lined all the way to the street. It took 1.5 hours to leave the fairgrounds but it was worth it and i will be there next year. Please dont move it to Joliet as i was there when they moved the Street Machine Nationals there from DuQoin and the Police showed up in riot gear and helicopters and started arresting people standing on the sidewalk watching cars cruise and they began impounding cars. After that night,I will not go to Joliet, even for Goodguys shows. Hey Mike(Magnet) Ferrarri how about moving it to Three sisters Park in Chillicothe,IL. Its close to Peoria and a ton of hotels. The park only costs about $750.00 for a weekend event and is four times the size of Grundy County Fairgrounds. Email me if you want more information. This is the same place that hosted the Rod and Custom Americruise years ago. Djohnson@Uniquecoaches.com

Man I never heard that before about Route 66. Cops seem to ruin shows in any town you go to it seems like. Why get them involved in the first place. FTP

we went for my son's 14th Birthday and it took 45 minutes on the exit ramp. Never let us in. Really a sad day since we look forward to it all year. My son made a youtube video of 2008 pileup and it's ahd over 23,000 views we were so hoping to make another one this year.

All this hype positive and negative opens your eyes to see what the Chrome Czars and volunteers have created. They should be commended for promoting the tradition.Sounds a lot like a "Sturgis" event for cars.Hopefully the local community and police will see how it can benefit the economy next year.

45 min. from the I-80 ramp in at 10:30, same on the way out a few hours later (woulda rather have stayed, but had to go). Time for a bigger venue. Kudos to the Czars and all of the dedicated red shirts (did you get the chocolate donuts?) for the best show ever. I'll post the pics on another thread for the folks who missed it or were turned away. I'm know the charity's appreciate all of the hard work.

  14. ...but if EVERYBODY gets there early, you got the same problem only earlier.

  15. Jake Blues spoiled it for everybody.

The Americruise people swore that they would never be back, too, due to the gravel roads, mud, dust, etc. Things have improved a bit since then. I live in Chillicothe, though, and as much as I would like to see the event here...the same problems that exist in Morris, so far as highway access, exist here as well, although the four-lane highway is directly next to the parking area.

Before we crucify the Morris & Il. State Police....I'm curious: were they notified in advance of the event, and the past attendance? It's easy to point fingers at them, and the fingers may be well-deserved...but if they were not given advance notice, it would be difficult to control the situation & nip problems in the bud. Even being aware of the event in years past doesn't necessarily mean that they were aware this year of the exact date.

I showed up around noon and it was fine.

Saw cars parked a mile away or so. Morris is a rad little town and the Chrome Czars and Red Shirts do a great job. Wish we had more events on the West Coast with the vibe of the Pile-Up!

We went to the HCP today, were turned away at the entrance. The Illinois state cops shut the show down as there was a HUGE turnout of rods & people, the fairgrounds couldn't hold the numbers..So my son did not get to shoot a new video of this years show, keep enjoying this one until next year! A drag since this is his birthday weekend & we have been going to this since 2005. We look forward to the show all year.We will be back in 2010! Looks like it will have to be held some place else though .Here is the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/user/40momba#p/a/u/1/knG7y4LEXxA

Just got home in my brothers tall T and froze our ass off.
32 degrees outside and about 40 inside with a slight breeze, but that's the fun of it.
No heater, just long underwear, hat and gloves and a couple of layers.
    Great show again.......

I worked as volunteer and got flipped off, cussed at and screamed at while I was trying to help people leave. Trust me it was damn funny. My friend got ran into by a dufus in a dually. The show rocked as usual but the traffic was unique. Probably time for a bigger spot. Hunnert forever!

I got there around 11, and spend probably 30 minutes in traffic. Great show, and props to everyone involved :D I was surprised to see so many people there 'cause it was effin cold. From what people are saying, there was no traffic direction from the local law enforcment until it was to late. If they were involved from the get go directing traffic around town, a similar situation next time might be avoided.

We drove about 120 miles, arrived at 10:00 and was off the highway and parked by 10:15. Left at 4:30, back on the highway by 4:45. It was a great show (cold and all) but I have to agree, time for a new spot. Sorry to all that didn't make it in but don't blame the workers, the man can be funny like that!! Seen it at Bike ralleys, concerts, and sport venues. Time for a larger space that can handle the traffic.

Breeder it was great to meet you today while the PBR was still there LOL.

Yes the Chrome Czars did a fantastic job again as always . The town of Morris was not ready for a event of this extravaganza . The Czars as well organized as always was at a disgust also when the law enforcement took over protocol . They should have worked with them and filled the lot to capacity and traffic would have kept moving. With the in and outflow the lot would have stayed full and everyone would have been able to enjoy such a great and well organized show .

My vids are up already and then hope fully some one will combine into one

This was my 5th pileup and it was the biggest I can remember. I got there at 8AM like every other year, live 1 hour away. The cars went way back in the trees this year. Last year County Cops were out front directing traffic
all day. No cops this year. When I left at 4:20 PM I couldnt believe how far away people were parked, past the Airport ! Missed the Swap meet this year. I hope they don't move it, the show is the closest meet we have.

I found this statement very interesting. While you were there did you see the main thoroughfare's blocked off while people were doing burnouts?
The streets were lined with people and many of the cars got sideways. Does the name Troy Critchley ring a bell?

Did you see the people getting hassled by the crowds when they stopped for traffic lights? IMO the police did what needed to be done for that event. This sure appeared to be a riot in the making and I think the authorities did a great job controlling the situation.
I was told that that event got the boot from DuQuoin for those same reasons.
Maybe you should have that event in your home town and have your wife, mother or sister hassled by a bunch of drunks while stopped at a traffic light.

The problems yesterday at the Pileup were nothing compared to what happened in Joliet.
I do hope that these problems can be overcome
and the event continue to grow, whether at the Grundy County fairgrounds or some other venue. Kudos to all the folks that work so hard to put this event on.
