Event Coverage ***2009 HCPU***It was a "Stone Gas" baby!

  1. Well, another great Pile Up is in the books!

This has been my 7th Pile Up and it never disappoints. Every Pile Up I go to, I have always felt exhilirated when I drive home. Tired and happy!

After discovering the Pile Up in 2003, I look forward every year to meeting my friends and making new ones, checking out cool rides and art.

Before posting I have read most of all other HCPU posts.

Yes, it was colder than past years. Yes, the Pile Up is burdened by it's own success. Yes, there were more cars this year and yes, alot more peeps showed up to partake the event. Yet, this show still manages to retain it's cool laid back vibe and friendly atmosphere.

One thing I do know, the Chrome Czars really know how to throw a party and they do it well. They are all smart, educated, dedicated, passionate car enthusiasts. Any problems that occured this year will be addressed and I'm sure the show will be even better for 2010. It always is.

Now let's check out my Pile Up experience,

I went down on Friday night and met one of my oldest and best buds and one of his friends for dinner in Morris and partake in the festivites at the Red Cent. It was a good time. The suds went down good, the bands were great and the atmosphere mellow and friendly. I got to see many HAMBr's. There were many great rides outside to check out too.

Walking up to the Red Cent we see this on the corner in front of a resturant. All I can say is, they had good intentions. My "night shots" mostly***** but,ya get the idea...

I went home for a nights sleep and came back the next morning for the show. I drove the 75 odd miles down from the "Village of the Ordinary"(tm) and arrived at the Speedway at 9:00a. Coming north off I80, I encountered a slight back up about 100 feet from the south entrance. People were veering to the right shoulder as not to block Rte 47. I got parked in no time by a couple of couterous Red Shirts and preceeded to the main gate.

As you can see by this photo, even at 9a I had a hike.

While walking I shot a few pics of cars in line. This car gets better everytime I see it. It sports a great pinstriping job.

Upon reaching the maingate, I gladly paid my $5 bucks and headed right to the T-Shirt booth to buy some shirts. I bought two and should of bought more.

My second order of business was to meet up with my fellow "Chicago Brushmasters" committee members around the maingate at 10a. We wanted to present Jeff Norwell with a plaque for providing the artwork for our 2009 show tin we sell at our charity panel jam at Chicago World of Wheels. Jeff went above the call of duty on a tight timetable and hit a Grand Slam for us.

While waiting for the guys, I shot these around 9:30a...

While waiting I run into Czar "Kansas" and ask for a pic with a Red Shirt cutie.

I then run into Czar "Magnet" and ask for 2 seconds of his time. This is what I got...:D
    [IMG]

The Brushmasters gathered and we then went into the Vendor building to find Jeff. We found him at his booth laden with killer art and t-shirts.and made the presentation. Than you again, Mi Hermano!

After our presentation was over, everyone went to do their thing. I was meeting up with my buds from the night before and I went exploring until I heard from them. Let's look at some cars and trucks.

I love Hotrods and Customs, but I lean toward Customs the most...

Nice choice of pics. For someone that is more into customs you sure got a lot more pics of the others. Great post.

I guess one of the good things about walkin up the row of cars before the gate is you get to see a bunch of cars along the way. kool

  10. There were many, many carclubs representing at the Pile Up. I didn't get as many pics this year but, here's a few in attendence...

Joel, thanks for the pictures. After some of the whinning and******ing about this great show it's refreshing to see some pictures of the truely great cars that make up a vast majority of the rides that show up. I was looking forward to seeing you again this year but we must have passed in the crowd. Hopefully next year we can bump into one another.

I dont think we have ever forced anyone to come yet and I know that we will never have to as this show is the best damn midwest show on earth.
