  1. So I have been wondering..what was the official count, and what could it of been if the cops hadn't shut it down??? It was phenominal!!!

For what it's worth, Ive been coming to the Pile up since it was held at Marty & Sons body shop in Sycamore IL. ( if you werent at the first 2 you'll never know what you missed) there were always some "Art' cars in attendence but there cool to look at if you take them for what they are. I have noticed a welcome rise in the quality over the past 5 years since some of those early cars were real death traps! Anyway, It's not ALL about the cars, it's also about meeting old friends and meeting new ones and spending the day with 10,000 like minded people.

The Pile Up is what it is and will never be all things to all people, just come and enjoy it (back in the day they would have called it a happening). I tip my hat to the Czars and ALL their helpers, If you have never tryed putting on a car show you have absolutly no idea what a pain in the ass it is, and they donate all the $$ on top of it!

So, I came, froze my ass off, drank some beer, got muddy, waited in lines, saw old friends met Jeff Norwell and Ed Tillrock, the art gods and had a great fuckin time. See ya next year!

A suggestion to the on filtering the cars board:
Have a first screening by the volenteers to QUICKLY pass the obvious cars. If there is ANY question abouot a car, pass it along to the second team.
Send the others to a second screening team where the older, wiser, thicker skinned guys will make a final decision.
PUBLISH the plan and the criteria so the first line guys don't get abused.
Hire a security cop stand there and look tough, to backup the second line guys and keep the beefing to a minnimum.

Like Rashy said, its a tough job. Splitting the decision on borderline cars should weed out the problems.

Spoken like a true gentleman. I agree.

  6. I walked around the entire show and saw tons of nice quality cars. Funny thing is if I see a car that don't tickle my fancy, I walk on buy it. Overall I thought the quality of cars was better this year than previous years.

I actually thought that there were less shock rods or over the top rat rods there this year than last year. I thought the quality of the cars was up as well. There were some pretty damn nice cars in there but a couple of them weren't too happy about the mud and slop....

In the Czar's defense, the cops didn't show up to control traffic for the pileup which has a history of drawing huge crowds, but they managed to have 4 squad cars at the Morris Lions Club swap meet and car show on Sunday. I have never seen a line at that thing in all of the years I have been going to it.

I do think the show has outgrown the venue, not because the show doesn't have room for more cars, which it does. The lake behind had a lot more room around it. I would rather be back there than in that gravel parking lot anyway.....there were just too many spectators. So what I get out of that is that more people need to build a quality hotrod and bring it to the show than stand on the sidelines and bitch about it.

I do think a location with a nice paved lot would attract some nicer cars as well. I love going to the pileup, but I will not bring my nice cars there mainly because I don't want to spend a month cleaning it afterwards because even if it hadn't rained the dirt there from the gravel is something else......

anyone else notice the cops helped traffic at the swap than early on at hunnert???

I'm not bitching, being a gate stopper would be hard, and with 2 gates being far to all is hard, but a email type pre-screaning would be cool way to get em in the door without disapointments. we were questioned on some old steel stock car wheels on the rear of our truck, second guy said no but first guy gave us our HCPU OK sticker. Agian, not bitching, but if our wheels were a no, all the post 1964 chevy rallye wheels would be out too! not to mention a couple sets of polished torque thrusts!

I took a day off from the internet too try and cool off from the people talking shit...

I swear what a bunch of crybabies. You know, it was really cold, why don't you start a thread about how the Czars didn't provide enough sun? That would be so cool.

Yes, a bunch of cars most of us don't agree with got in... but you know what... maybe they were parked next to a cool little model A that people drooled over all day. Maybe they saw the response that car was getting and maybe they thought... "HMMMM... maybe I'm going about this all wrong."

If you want a parrot to talk... put that parrot next to one who already talks...

Ok so here is my 2 cents on this all, traditional has a different meaning to everyone and not everyone's opionions will agree. So instead of focusing on what got in or didnt make it in the show, and what you think is traditional as opposed to the next guy why dont we focus on what really MATTERS, the SHOW!!!

The Czars work hard, as well as the volunteers and they ALL DID A GREAT JOB! The show was great, mud and all...I think most of you will agree with that.

So let's stop bickering and focus on what really matters, the fact that this show is for Charity and there are thousands of dollars that get donated because of it. Focus on the fact that your $ 5 (spectator) or $20 (car) actually went to a good cause.

Right.....If you don't like a certain car, don't look at it. Jesus, it is that simple. But, then you would probably find something else to bitch about. How about just going and having a good time with some cool people and some cool cars ???

For the crybabies, have a car show, I won't volunteer like I do for the pile up, then I'll come on to the HAMB and bitch. Its' the new traditional thing to do. Hell, don't invite me and I'll bitch just because. I'm cool with it.

Maybe airbag is just living up to his name. Sounds like you would love having a one man cars show in your driveway so you can bask in your own awesomeness.

As an inspector on the South gate from 9-11, I got to see the problem first hand. The Czars are working on solving it... stand by...

    Another idea:
    Let the rat rods in.
Place them all together in the FARRRRRRRR back of the last lot.
Then they can't bitch about not gettin in and we don't have to look at them.....

They ain't bitchen about not getting in cuz they were in. Everyone else is bitchen about how come they were LET in.

  25. To all the people who make the Pile Up happen:

Please bring the show to the east coast.
    I'll pay to get in.
    I'll volunteer once I'm in.
I won't bitch about anything before, during or after the show.

    I promise.

I drove 6 hours to get there, it was cold and wet and the cars were all over the board. Nothing to complain about!!!

Samuel L. Jackson said it..."Bitch be cool" yeah whining and complaining ain't cool.

Heres an idea. If you know someone with a nice traditional car, talk them into bringing it to the pileup next year.

I think I have a friend of mine talked into bringing his merc next year. (Which he has never brought because he wants to fit in with all the rat rodders)

i went through this same crap several years ago with the arthritis foundation, when they took over the Len Immke classic, here in Columbus.

once the Arthritis foundation got a hold of this show, everything was being let in.

there were brand new Mustangs and Vettes, and worst of all, they had a frigging PT Cruiser club come in with their vehicles.

i emailed the lady running the meet, and she basically said we need the money.

    i've never been back.

their car count at this year's meet was down 200 cars:(

  30. I'm tellin ya....that is cool shit to see a kid proudly wearing a club jacket.....blue light special or not!

Anyone here that is bitching ever been to the Texas Lonestar Roundup????? Well I have and I thought the average quality of cars down there SUCKED ASS this year. Now I am talking average quality, not highs and lows. there were nice cars and junk, but overall, I didn't see anything that impressed me about the cars down there. I made comments to many people that the pileup has better average quality. Roundup had pro touring cars with 20" wheels, VERY ornate Rat Rods and lots of other stuff that the Czars clearly turn away. Well, I hear everyone talk that that show is the best traditional show in the country?!? There were WAY more junk rat rods than at the Pileup. Main reason that show is cool is the entertainment and the city of Austin. The Morris venue is much better and I think the Czars do a much better job screening cars. Will I go back to both shows, HELL YA!!
