  1. It's all good except for the 20 hour clean-up job on the garage, that SUCKED. Good news is by cleaning out the garage i discovered that i own two belair wagons. Now i can even use the lift in the garage for the first time in a year and a half. How'd i get so much shit?

Yer killin' me, man. Anybody who's been addicted to cars has probably said THAT 20 times. And I am STILL not caught up!!! Been lookin' for stuff to put on Axeman's "Pay Forward . . ." thread. Amongst all my actually SHIT, I have keen, rare stuff too!

Just a note, there's a guy on ebay who sells complete glass kits and fuzzies for these, just do a search.

Also, are you using the stock gas tank? Mine has so much crud in it I'm debating either having a replacement one made or going with something else, maybe a trunk mounted tank. I used about $20 worth of acetone already but the varnish is unbelieveable. There must have been over 5 gallons in the tank when it was stored, it's all powder now. There's a big baffle in the middle of the tank as well, so I may never get it completely clean.

  5. Don't get me started on the gas tank, had a friend(?) make me a new one that was going to be an exact copy out of stainless. Waited 3 1/2 weeks, get it and it looks and fits like something from a Studebaker. Now i have a $300.00 dollar gas tank that i don't know what to do with. This was only topped by the $550.00 radiator re-core job by a friend(?).

Well maybe I'll give this a guy a shot then. I do have a spare tank on my parts chassis, but I really don't know what condition it's in. If you lost the original maybe we can work something out.

I got lucky with my radiator, it only needed a little repair on the seam for the crank pass-through. I think it ran me $40 from a real old school rad shop. I'm crossing my fingers that it holds up.

  7. Nope didn't lose the gas tank, it went to the guy who was going to make the exact copy out of stainless. He cut it apart ( why don't know , but burns my ass) and when he was done with it he threw it away. I had a third party handling this and like the old saying goes if you want it done right ,do it yourself. This is why i don't like to depend on others and prefer to do things myself. Hopefully the parties involved steer clear of me for quite some time, i'm still at a warm simmer over this. Suppose i could just of said FU__OFF and not paid and maybe i should have but didn't. Rant over.

That's what I meant, if you wound up losing the tank in the process of having the new one made. I'll post the results when I get mine back.

  9. Yeah i'd appreciate that.

DAMN! Never a video camera around when you need one! That must have been priceless. At least nothing (or no one) except your pride and a little lumber was hurt in the process.

  14. Thanks and hope you had a good trip.

It'll be cooler when it's done and thanks.

Now it would have been funny, then it was just ...OH SHIT!!! Yes that video could have made me money.

Any more progress on your car?

  16. Block sanding. Not on the body but the smaller parts. Not very exciting and won't post pics until later in the week.

  18. See i just managed to hit a fence, but my buddy wet himself laughing so i don't feel so bad. I had to fix a fence and car, he had to mop up.

awesome build can't believe i missed this thread!

  26. Well i must admit doing this fried me and burned me out for awhile, but i'm back at it. Here's some updated photos to catch everyone up. I'm kind of between body work and re-doing the front and rear suspension. One of the downfalls of rushing to get something done is knowing that there will be some re-do's down the road. The wheels are artillary and got the tallest tires i could find, and yes they are radials. Gutted the front suspension today and am going from a 4" drop to a 6" drop. Also swithching from parallel leafs to a transverse leaf with radius rods. Looks like the front crossmember will need some surgery to get this as low as i would like. I'm trying to lower this about 5-6 inches total in front. Managed to get the rear pan and frame horn covers fixed, straightened and Black Imroned.I've babbled long enough for now........ Later.

  27. Remember to account for the rear mounted spring when positioning the crossmember. Probably needs to be 3"-4" back to keep the tires in the right place under the fenders.
But you knew that....why did I tell you something you allready knew?
    Keep up the good work.

  28. Thanks Rich, yep thats why i ordered a spring behind unit so i can keep the radiator where it is and in one piece. The shackle mount is 3" back C to C from the axle and i think it will look better 1 " back from the stock location. Will be doing mock-up this week so we'll see how it goes and thanks.

  29. Well pretty happy with the stance now, maybe drop the ass-end another inch or two. Now comes the fun part making this work and permanent. I moved the centerline of the front axle back 3/4" from stock and it seemed to pull the front end together. Start the fab work Tuesday with updates later in the week.

  30. Well after a self-imposed break i'll be making some slow progress again, the key word being slow. Didn't know i had a brain until it got fried along with my body about mid November. Got the front end down where i want it and had to think outside the box a little on that. Steering and re-doing the rear leafs ( some really funky tappered pivots ) are up next. So glad i spend the money on the insulation for the shop right about now. Going to be a long winter.
