Fantastic pictures, brilliant thread, thank you.
I was lucky enough to have met Dick Landy at the Goodwood festival of speed over here about four/five years ago, what a character.
His reaction to being told to put his cigar out when he was in the pit area was hilarious.

  5. The new owner knows exactly what he has. He is selling t-shirts with the car on them also. The car is to be "preserved" not restored. Hubert has been at several shows with the car also. There was always a rumor of the car surviving but it didn't surface until the previous owner had some family issues. I saw the car in person two years ago. It is a time capsule and even still has the Econoline steering wheel in it that originally came with the front axle!!

  10. All right! Dirty Ed, that's a good one. I saw that car run a couple of years ago at the 50th Aniversary of Southeastern Dragway in Dallas, Georgia. Sadly, the strip was on its way into oblivion as it was to succumb to the demands of "progress"

As for the car, here's a neat photo (below) of it being pulled out of a barn prior to its restoration. As for "Bunky's" real name, it's Lamar Bobo.

  14. I've said it before and by god I'll say it again!:D

Tony Nancy had some of the most innovative and best looking T/F cars ever. Then and now!

I'd like to see a pic of this car next to a current 300" w/b fueler just to give a sense of scale as to what a sweet, compact racer this is. And Oldmobile powered to boot!

I just want to take a brief moment to express my sincere appreciation for this thread and the wide variety of visual contributions (photos) that have been placed here in this thread... It's encouraging to see such an outpour from members who wish to preserve the golden memories of Drag Racing's days gone bye... The importance of making these images available for the gearhead cyber community to enjoy cannot be measured, it's like a million bucks to be able to log on to here and gaze into the magical eras of the sport that some of us may not have been around yet to experience ("born too late syndrome" "BTLS" as it's often called it in automotive circles)... You folks contributing to this thread deserve to be commended... Please keep it going... There's no denying that it makes for an incredible "time tunnel" journey into straightline racing's colorful past... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

I still think that guy looks a lot like Bill Jenkins in 1964, Ford or no Ford.

Anyone? Maybe he was being paid to wrench on that T-bolt?
