I just got the start of the parts to convert my 51 ford to a 51 merc!!!

    Did i mention it's a P/U??

  2. Anybody have any neat pictures of customized '41 to '48 Mercs?

Not saying that any I've ever seen fall into the best-ever catagory, but they were neat cars with a pretty big following.

Thats like poetry in motion. All time new Fav for me. I don't see anything on this car I'd change myself. Absolutely Beautiful!

  8. I can't access my files, but OZ's Green Mercury and the Candy Purple with White Scalloped Mercury that graced the cover of a little book (Bailey) with the Bubble Skirts have always blown me away......I'd love to own them both....Centurion9

  13. A bit OT but it has always puzzled me.
Why do people include their username at the end of their post?

  14. "best mecury ever"-has got to be the one that you own/are building. If you don't believe that, then i guess you would be content on buying someone else's dream/vision already done. What seperates anyone of our cars/trucks is our own personnal taste, and abilities. I concede they are a good motivational/inspirational tool, but don't sell yourself short. If those builders didn't have a vision, with the ability they would not have been created. You have got to be somewhat obsessed with your project, or be content on dreaming about someone else's.

Well said,I agree---or it's--"In our search to be different we all to
look the same" ( unless you are building a clone )

To each his own, everyone has their own opinion on what is the best Merc ever built...
There is no best Mercury. A Mercury that you think is the best Merc could be a piece of sh--t to someone else. Mercury's like the "Hirohata" and the "Matranga" are famous mercurys. Not necessarily the best. I bet the "Hirohata" Merc drives like an old junk! Looks nice though...

Oh that red car? Any more pics of it in primer before the leather roof?

  20. I kind of like Westergard's fade away. Not as much flash as later custom mercs but it was/is a pretty damned slick car.

It's shit like this that turns me away from this board! Some Hamb Nazi trying to force his views down someone's else's throat! Who the hell do you think you are? People are entitled to their opinions and the last I checked we live in a free society! There's some killer Mercs out there that have been built in recent years, not taking away from the Hirohata,or Barris mercs, but geez pull your head out of you ass, have a look around and you might see something really cool!
Now my vote goes to Bad Bob's!

this should be renamed "please post Mercury coupes you like" because thats all its turned into. If its truely a best Mercs ever thread, we should only be talking about 10 cars at most. No one mentioned the Martinez 1940 coupe or the blue chopped 56 with the ghost flames from southern california a decade ago. I dont recall who's that was but it was super nice.
Most of the cars mentioned here are nice, not the best. Sam will most likely hold that title with three (at least) of his cars with probably the Matranga on top.

  25. If you think my Merc even deserves a mention, you DON'T know Mercurys!

  26. Actually, after talking to Jim at the Merc Gathering,I know for a fact that it drives amazing! But he did admit that he rarely drives it.

wow, look at that. you dont waste any time at all. Thank you.
The blue one is just incredible in real life, the rear fender flames actually start with the head of the Mercury man and the dash has pot plants painted on it. That car really made an impression on many of us back then... glass fit nice too! what a neat car.

  29. In the early class, say it with me, MA-fing-TRANGA.
In the 49-51 varietals, say it with me, Paul Bragg.
