I know that the year is a little off topic, but Chuck Miller is going to be the featured builder at the Detroit autorama and is looking for cars that he built to display in his booth. Has anyone seen this 1 or know who bought the firetruck at the RM auction a few weeks back?
Not much of a lead, but I know it was in the Phoenix area back in the late seventies and early eighties. It used to show up on Central pretty frequently, but was painted candy red by that time. I have not seen it in many years. Good Luck, Chip Quinn
I thought it was in Michigan.. Ive seen that before not that long ago along with a few other Mopars I think the other was the Daroo Dart.... in a Mag,,
That front end looks like the one on the factory show car (Rapid Transit cars?). If that cuda was built out of the factory show car, I'm pretty sure it has been restored to the way Chrysler Corp showed it....
If it has anything to do with a factory show car, this guy may know: http://www.stevenjuliano.com/cars.htm
Did you check under your bed or look in the closet real good??? You prob have and dont realize it...wink wink!!
have you tried galen govier or however thats spelled .... he seems to be the man in the know on the mopars....
Someone mentioned Steve Juliano earlier in this thread. I know that he has restored about half of mopars "Rapid Transit" show car brigade at one point, so he wouldbe where I would start. There were several articles in the mopar press about his collection back in the mid 2000's.
I'm pretty sure Juliano knows where the car is...if it isn't in his collection finaly. From what I remember reading in the earlier part of this decade was that he (Juliano) had bought and restored all the rapid transit cars and the only one he didn't have was the cuda. The story goes, if I remember right, that a fellow found and bought the car from an underground parking area somewhere. He originaly didn't know what he had and eventualy put it up for sale. Some how he found out what it was and then wanted big $$$ for a beat up show car. He would not budge on the price and so after months/years? or negotiating with this fellow Juliano eventualy walked away. This guy probably still has it stuffed in a garage and thinks that one day someone will show up with $2 Million dollars and buy it. I could be way off on this...I was probaly drunk while reading the original article....
The sonic cuda and the RTS cuda are 2 different cars, Chuck Miller built both cars and while they are similar with the same nose, the sonic cuda has a different front spoiler
Steven probably had the best advice for you and the story about his Rapid Transit cars and the cuda is not what I have heard from the man himself. Here's a bump for the O/T but cool cuda.
http://www.abodyjoe.com/vintage/70spaint.htm There's a few pictures of it, right side, just about half way down. Couple other RTS cars too.
From Moparts comes Steven J himself, and I quote "so how many of you guys know me? why guess? just call or write me directly. i promise you the cancer hasnt killed me yet nor has it rotted my memory. sonic cuda is not a car i looked for nor a car i cared to learn more about. though that photo of it on this thread showing it at a new car show circa 72? may have changed my mind. while on the hunt for the 1970 rts rrunner i was told the car was painted black and in a town named lake orion, mi. i never pursued that lead. if one of you finds it promise me a photo please. (please someone post this on that hamb site.) when is the show thats honoring chuck miller? hes one very cool guy. my first ever conversation with him was about rts signage. i called and asked if he had any old posters and se said "NO. ALL I HAVE IS THIS F-ING CHICKEN HEAD CAR" he was referring to the rts 71 runner. wingcar dave can post a pic if you dont know what car that is. Ok enough babbling.....back to getting "nursed" back to health. (terry and alan are laughing now) " http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=5760160&Main=5708123
We never did find it. Chuck Miller wanted to borrow it for his display at the detroit autorama. he is the featured builder this year. Almost no point in using it if it is painted black
Too bad, It would be cool to see it! I missed it the first time around, but with all that candy laquer there's no way that beautiful paint scheme could have survived if it was being driven. I pity the fool that had to touch it up or "spot" it in! I did see the RTS runner though back in 94 at Chuck's shop. All original paint from 71 and looked fantastic! A little laquer check here and there but very well preserved!
