I hadn´t realised how big the surrounds were on the Lincoln lights - it makes the whole thing look a lot larger than your paper cutout templates would suggest. I was wondering if I´d screwed up the proportions somehow, (which I may have done!), but I think its the surrounds that do it. If you left them off, it would make a huge difference.

  3. I was thinking the headlights looked 10%-20% larger than they should be, too. It's tough to match up stuff from two different photos without a common point of reference in both of them. That's why a lot of times I use the "coloring book" option in my photo editor and print up an outline drawing with whatever I want to change blanked off (along with the background) and go make some photocopies and sketch it up to see how it looks.

Which I just tried on my '50 Chevy and I think my headlight idea for that car is okay, but I need to do some measuring to sort out grille ideas.

[IMG] My vote goes to this Photoshop of the Kaiser grille this setup looks very cool. I would keep the duel quads small, so as not to over power the total look or use good old '53 Buick bezels. "Keep it simple, keep it clean" this is where good design stands out.

The car being sectioned also makes them look a lot bigger than they appear on Chopmercs car.

i honestly don't feel like they look too big, , , ,i think if i make the grille opening a size that works with them, they'll be fine.

  8. I think this is probably a better representation of the Lincoln lights in comparison to the side profile, compared to the awesome photshop on the previous page. I'd imagine that a deeply sectioned shoebox would have a profile more like a 'Bird...they don't look too big here...

I like the quad headlights and I agree with the no nose cone ruling. maybe some nostril-slits in the hood would be cool.

  10. There ya go Jim. I don't think you could have asked for any better opinions for the front end. The last 2 pages are full of some really great ideas. I'd read the last few pages and call the front end done.

ok,,,,played around with the 58 lincolns and different shapes/sizes of grille openings,,,,,in the end, i think i really like this better,,the size works for me, and just the slight cant gives it a pretty cool look,,,,leaning heavily in this direction. . .

Heh! I always liked those Buick lights. Much more subtle.

Filled in a few gaps for you, and added a roll pan, just to give you a better idea.

well you've certainly come full circle on the headlight idea...I have to be honest Jim, I think for the style and the era you're going for, the Buicks don't really work...

I'm definitely an advocate for quad lights on this car, but not necessarily the Lincolns...They may be a bit bulky for your front end...but these along with that Kaiser grille just seem to work....just my .02....

You could use 59 chevy lights or even 58 edsels..there are several smaller quad set-ups that will work....

nothing is set in stone (obviously, with me,,lol),,,,im still doing some heavy duty pondering, , ,i really do think i can make the buicks work,,,the grille shell shape will play a big part in determining that,,,im thinking an elongated oval shape with something similar to a 57 buick grill inside, or perhaps concave bars like the kaiser grille kevin lee posted,,,or maybe just some mesh with floating pontiac stars,,,it definitely needs the grille opening and rolled pan mocked up in order to get a good visual...

  20. The pontiac stars would be a great period alternative to the knobs...

I think the key link here is the grill...I think when we all see this car done most HAMB'ers are going to feel a sense of "ownnership"...so many have contributed and commented on your various threads...very cool...

Telstar is rad. it's like "hamb dream car-2009" Pontiac starts in the grille would be very appropriate era wse, and name wise.
