I admire all the work you are putting into this. I liked the Lincoln lights and think you could integrate them with the round center grill you are currently thinking about. The teardrop Buicks seem to clash with the circle grill center. One style item I hope you will reconsider is the cut down doors. When I saw this it took me back to the 50's and my reading about home built cars in Popular Mechanics etc. In variably they had cut down doors mostly to make the car different. It breaks up the flowing lines you have going. My 2 cents.

Yes I was advocating for keeping the flowing lines going by not cutting them down. I realize everyone has their unique ideas and your car in the end should reflect your ideas. Just offered the thought in case you weren't locked into the cut down design. In any case the car will be a standout and it is already apparent that it has and will have just as much work as Barris ever did on the Golden Sahara. Keep at it, looking forward to seeing it complete.

wow, thanks for the compliment, , ,one of my inspirations for the car was the LaRocket, built by bob metz of indiana, he is my kustom idol,,,,,i absolutely love the way he did the doors on the LaRocket and thought it might translate well onto my car,,,,,heres a couple of pics,,,,,,photos courtesy of Ricksters site

Yes I like the LaRocket as well. Bob Metz was also one of my idols growing up. If I may offer my thought on why I think it works better on his car then it might on yours is the fade a way fenders, ala Biuck, and the sweeping chrome trim which direct your eye from front to rear. I see the tape on your side like maybe you plan for sweeping chrome trim. This would help do what the fade a way fenders do on LaRocket. Best wishes.

yes, i am planning on some sweeping trim, i had originally planned on using 53 buick, but decided against in the end for a number of reasons, one of which, it had already been done on metz's car,,,i'm going to use some half oval br*** stock to fabricate my own side trim, and then have it plated,,,,,,below the trim, in the "cove" area, i plan to use expanded metal, or some type of mesh to match the grille and inside the rear of the fins, , , i had actually considered making the cove area concave, which i still may end up doing,,,,,

  17. Now that LaRocket gives me ideas for what to do with an extra S10 frame and a rotty 49-50 Chevy parts car. And all the other parts and pieces I have laying around. Hmmm...

Okay, all I could find handy for a side on shot was a '50 Pontiac coupe. Here's a super rough sketch.... shortened, hood pancaked, doors cut down, windshield lowered (that one is stock with the divider blanked out, but probably would need a wider one put on it), trunk pancaked, and the rear wheel arches are copied from the front and set a tad lower. Front wheel arch is raised like the body was sectioned, too. I could probably blank a few more things out and print it up and use pen to rough it in better. But I like the profile, it reminds me of a Kaiser-Darrin or something.

Ready for the next project? Ha...

  19. Well, that would be one way to learn how to weld, that's for sure. I'll have to look and see what would work for some of the bits to splice into it.

looking at that pic, it seems like the grille opening might look a little better with more of an elongated oval shape,,,,,,

Thats what I was thinking. I tried running the lower curve of the grille into the headlight bezels. Reminds me of an early sixties Alfa Romeo now! (Which isn´t a bad thing).

i think i found the perfect grille opening shape, , , ,the shape i fabbed up just wasn't doing it for me, so i did some scrounging trough my stuff and came up with this,,,,,its the garnish moulding from a 50 pontiac sedanette,,,,,,the shape is much more complimentary to the rest of the car,,,,,and the ends are at the same angle as the headlights..

EDIT: i posted this before i saw JamesDs latest photoshop, which i love,,,got some thinking to do..

James D. you are an ***et to the HAMB. This thread alone is proof. You've saved Kustom7777 a lot of fab time with your Photoshopping. Imagine the number of reincarnations of this car if not for you!

So, going with something like this would rule out the clear bullet headlight covers, no? I really like those but have no education on Kustom styling.
