I've made some great friends here on the HAMB and always found American enthusiasts to be more than friendly towards us Brits :)

Anyways I contacted a guy selling something on here a few days ago and asked politly if he would ship to the U.K. if i covered extra shipping costs, the reply i got was short and to the point :D

I quote "I don't sell american parts to foreigners"

What happened to hands across the sea and all that :(

I suppose my response was kind of to the point too. Perhaps I should expound on this a little.

I would rather give away old stuff to a HAMBer on the other side of the world than sell it to some street rodder around the corner that is just going to fuck it up.

Mostly good folk on here. I have had free stuff sent from the US more than once and heaps of other help getting stuff we can't get here.

    Just one bad egg.

Mostly hot rod guys are ready to help other hot rod guys - no matter where they live.

I've had the "pleasure" to try to deal with only one guy on the HAMB, who refused to reply to my PM's after he found out I was from Australia, even thought we had agreed on a deal.

I have to agree with Pete's comment about Street rodders vs overseas HAMBers - give me a hot rodder any day!!!

if your willing to pay the asking/agreed upon price you could be on the moon and i will sell you parts! i'm sure others would be interested in who the acused is. he may have some poor trading practices with people stateside. time to have a fellow hamber as back up for the next purchase and then send the prick a thank you letter showing the return address.!

I have run into problem having stuff sent to me here in Canada. No one on the Hamb but on ebay.Seems it is alot of paper work for some to send parts out of the US so many don`t waist there time with us "foreigners". But never had any trouble with anybody on here yet. I can see there point all the same.I can drop parts in the mail on this end with no problems while someone from the US have to fill out a bunch of forms to send something out.

Not only have we have sold a couple of cars overseas but ended up with some great friendships established from doing so. First one was a little scary not knowing all the ends and outs of selling overseas but it has been enjoyable.

I shipped ten different cars to Japan over fifteen years ago. Had more then one of the street rodder types say, how could I do such a thing with our American cars. The people over just copy us and never have an original idea of their own. I said, where were you with money in hand when they were for sale? The guys in Japan who have the cars are true car guys and HAMBers.

  13. I sell on Ebay and ship worldwide! I have never had a problem with a buyer yet or lost a package. Foreign buyers seem to be extremely thankful and polite. Helping a fellow hotrodder out is good karma....

Is this really a problem? Not trying to make it worse. You ran into an oddball. It happens. Move on.

For sure mate, I've bought parts from all over the world but mostly from the U.S. without any problems at all usually, I got a reply from him this morning as i had said fair enough in my reply, This particular guy thought vintage hotrod parts should stay in the U.S. :(

Hell big business sold out the whole country, why worry about a few old car parts?

  24. I have had trouble too getting parts shipped to Canada. I just went elsewhere but I often did not understand why. Our banking systems are well linked so it cant be a money thing. The amount of paper work involved consisits of writing what is in the box and the value. That plus the Address it is going to is all.
I dont want to argue about the whys and wherefores but I would like to understand it. Two I had problems with at first were Mazolini in California but after a quick explain what was involved I did buy a fair amount from him with no problem. Randy's Ring and Pinion refuses completely. Why I have no idea. Paid by Visa or Mastercard and shipped by UPS . How hard could that be?
I have sent engines and engine stuff to France and Germany as well as the USA and sold my books all over the world without incident. I suspect some of the sellers do not understand how easy it is. For me if your gold can get here I can get your stuff there period!

Bought a 34 cowl vent assembly from the U.S.A.when it got here it was from a 36, thought I,d been had so contacted the guy and he said he,d get back to me.Next day he said he was sorry sent all my money back and told me to keep the 36 one, sell it and send him half what I could get for it or if I couldn,t be bothered to forget it.Top bloke in my book.

  26. All that is involved is a little extra paperwork.
    Big whoop.
As for sending US car parts overseas...a great deal of what you buy new for our old cars comes from overseas...and I'll bet he has at least one foreign car in his driveway.
If you guys keep sending me parts to keep my Jap bikes and British cars running, I'll send you U.S. steel.

As for Canada, it took longer to get back into the U.S. with proper documentation than it did to get into Canada filling the paperwork out at the border with a few cellphone calls in the process. If we had kept the paperwork from the trip down, the trip back would have been even smoother. It was all about value and taxes. The "X-Ray" and bomb scan don't take that much time at all.

I wouldn't get too upset. He's probably the guy who shops at Wal-Mart and looks around the aisles thinking "Look at al this great American made stuff."

  28. i think some people just don't want to go thru the little bit of extra to ship overseas cause they just want it (whatever it is ) gone...and think it is a real big deal to ship overseas....

i did run into a problem with getting the grille/nose section for the topolino over here from germany....dude said he'ld ship it anywhere in europe i wanted, just not to the USA.....but he was not a Hamber....it was a Hamber who got me an addy to have it shipped to Holland and that Hamber forwarded it to me stateside...and he even shipped it before i sent him the money or even knew how much to send...great guy, (thanks again Mr Bluto for the hookup with Herman !!!!!!!!!!!!!)

everything i have bought for the topo body has to come from overseas...and i've also bought other stuff for it from cross the big pond..headlites, rockers ect....right now i'm in the process of haveing a roof center to fill in my hacked hardtop on the topo shipped here..from way down under....another great Hamber helping me out!!!

guess the dude you had the bad luck of trying to deal with is just a poser..not a true hotrod guy..not a real Hamber.........

like said, most here are going to go above and beyond to help out...
