HA! Someone just said that about my old truck, only they said it in a way that implied I must have BOUGHT it from the Cash For Clunkers program. (did she think it was catch-and-release?)

At first I thought she was trying to be insulting, but then she tried to start a friendly conversation.
Hmmm, was she really trying to be insulting or just simply saying dumb things just to be talking?
Sometimes it is really hard to tell.

"Did you get that truck from Cash For Clunkers?" well!, I never.....

  3. Are ya gonna leave it stock? to a friend with a '31 sedan running a SBF in it... Makes you wonder sometimes what goes through peoples heads.

    About my 53 buick:

    1) Hey Man, nice Mercury

    2) It'll be nice when it is finished

    3) Dude, that thing would be awesome with a chevy crate motor in it

    4) You really should take that Buick frontend off of that Oldsmobile

I had a Predator carb on a 351w in a 74 Pinto and people always wanted to know: What kind of carburetor you got in that box?
I also had a guy ask if my 1920 T roadster 302/C4, M-50/14 tires out back, side pipes and a ratchet shifter with a Grenade on it..............was original? Really?

No s**t. Take the time to take a picture of somebody's car, and then tell the guy how shitty it looks?

That's when you tell them "It's not oil, it's muffler fluid."
OT, but the crackhead parents of a friend of mine did the same thing back in the day. They were driving to Seattle and wound up in Spokane, about 250 miles away. HAHA!!!

Smart-looking people often quizzically ask "can you fit inside that car?" at car shows regarding my very small coupe.
I stay polite but am thinking .... "Well. let me see, maybe I pushed it here"?

Had a woman yesterday ask if my quick change exposed rear end was the engine. I have no hood sides and exposed headers with 3 1/2" side-pipes and the engine is right in your face kind of thing.
Certainly not an "expert" but a part of the human race that drives cars and presumably passed a compentency test. No wonder Johnny can't read.

Two old guys are standing in back of my '49 Cadillac mild custom, the expert took a look and says look he removed the beautiful V emblem and crest, didn't say a thing about no trunk handle. So, I remotely pop the trunk and he says look it won't even stay closed. He goes on to say, look he removed the back seat why! Mine you the car wasn't finished yet. He messed up a perfect old stocker. OK, take a look....

I was at a rod run last weekend. Mea nd my freinds are driving old school rods we have been driveing for the last 15-20 years.
A guy walks up to my friend and says.
So you guys must not be real mechanics. Then he gets in his Prius and drives away. We all had a good laugh.

Do people realize what it takes to keep these cars on the Road?

I took my '71 Corvette to my only all Corvette show ever. Two guys are looking over my ride in the street car section of the show, my vette sits real low, the guys how can it drive it this way and what is that thing on the front (bra) and those wheels are not stock. (five spoke wheels) Later, I go into the building for the Concourse section and the same two guys with a clip board in hand are judging the perfect vette's. I walk up with buddy on the other of this stock '62 vette and I said, if it were mine I'd cut a hole in the hood and put a blower on it. Well, you should seen these two vette experts come unglued and give me the dirtiest look ever. Damn that was worth it! :D :D :D

My two buddies are at this show and setting a couple of cars away from my friends '29 Ford sedan. Bob said, Frank look at your car and a whole family of Indians are setting it. Frank walks over and says what are you doing. The guy behind the wheel says is this car for sale and Frank say yes, how much? Frank says 90K and they all get out with puzzled looks on there faces shaking their heads while waking away. Turns they believed the car show was a lot for cars for sale. They just didn't have a clue and after all they were foreigners.

While we (the Bomberes) were kicking back a few at a streetrod show a lady walks up to eyeball our cars and says "oh you guys are the ones that drive junk cars". We just laughed at her and she went back to her corner of the billet world.

I also have a stock height '34 Ford fiberglass coupe from Gibbon when they made them right. Looks perfect full-fendered stock and hard to tell from a steel car. No chop, no gaps and everything looks just right.
Many a guy has tapped on the body and remarked how they love the sound of that thick steel from the old days. Sometimes I comment, sometimes not. Of course they all had one just like it.

    With the current project:

"Why did you put GTO stickers on that Nova?"

    followed by:

"That's the strangest looking SBC I ever saw!".

Yep, Happens to me too. I just smile.

When it comes to the uninformed masses "No Fenders and Primer = Rat Rod". Some people get it, most don't.

That's why there is the H.A.M.B

I have been asked to move my Charger and heard "Nice Charger" more times than I ever care to admit... Just 'cuz it's Orange doesn't mean it's the Dukes... But then... It really doesn't say anywhere on the car that it is a Mercury....

I was grinding paint and filler off my roof yesterday and some feller sauntering by says : "You shouldn't do that, if you take it all the way down to the metal it'll rust"...
I said :"That's the idea, I'm building a rat rod!"

  21. Several years ago, I just had a transporter deliver an old Barris promotional custom built for the Tastee Freez corp. that hadn't been seen in public for 25+ years. The next day was the last local car show of the season and I quickly polished up a couple of the brass pieces along with a hand written sign stating it was just taken out of long term storage when all of the "grey beards" experts came by. "I know EVERYTHING Barris ever built and I never saw that one. Its not one of his. Its made in the Barris style but he didn't make that one or I would have known about it." OK - people are stupid. When I ran into George he remembered the car very well and signed some original promotional photos for me that came with the car. Go figure. As I say " Those who think they know all the answers haven't heard many of the questions." John

Read all the stuff on the "32 roadster for a grand" on the HAMB. With all due restpect, I think many of the Hamber's are the dumbest "experts" around. With a few exceptions of course. Don't I just sound like one of the girls!

  26. "Why did you put Mustang nameplates on your Pontiac?"
Nice try, Pontiac had a 2+2 in '64 was my answer, Mustangs didn't have a 2+2 badge until '65.

I have been driving my car for almost 20 years now and I still get asked by the same people when I am going to finish it .

  30. No feature was ever done on this car that I am aware of since it was built. I have been working on this project recently (finally came to the top of things to do) and I am interested in doing some sort of feature on it next year when it will be back on the streets. Its a relatively unknown car that was rarely seen so few people know anything about it. A recent Google search about this car brought me to sign up for this site yesterday and saw that someone had asked about it over a year ago if it was still in existance. I'm more into wrenches than computers so this website was a great find for me. John
