What is the COOLEST Looking V8 you would have in your HotRod

  2. 427 SOHC or if it would fit, a Ford GAA DOHC, 1100 cid, all aluminum V8.

    hopefully everybody hates me - I wish I had an old Audi 5cylinder 20V Turbo in my project. I love those audi engines. They sound great and you can run 'em with lots of boost

    i'm a big fan of flathead fords and pretty much all first generation g.m. ohv stuff especially early pontiacs.

    I've looked at that engine; I was seriously considering one for one stage of my avatar project. They really sound good with big cams and the sort of exhaust they never seem to have.

    It would have been a 20V Turbo head on a South African 2.6 Microbus block, but I'd have lost the hair dryer and EFI in favour of a fairly large-capacity Roots blower breathing through a 2" SU.

    Not particularly pretty, though.

    Pure fantasy, for a thin-fendered rod (speaking of SUs)? How about a reverse-flow Nailhead, with two SU's either side and bundles of snakes out the top? That'd look cool, but I think the heads would take some doing.

    As far as V8 engines go, one that might be a little tricky to put into a hot rod, but which would be absolutely guaranteed to draw a crowd is the one used in the 1964 Lotus type 34 Indy cars.

    A description of the engine: "four-cam 4195 cc (255ci) DOHC Ford V8 with Hilborn fuel injection, producing 425 bhp"

    Later versions of the same engine used in the Type 38 (also an Indy car) eventually put out more like 500 hp.

    Not very streetable, perhaps, but look at the way that thing looked in the car! It had the headers coming out between the cylinder banks so they could alternate the primaries into the collectors according to the firing order of the engine. That meant each collector had some pipes from each bank. The injector stacks fed down between the cams on the top of each head, which is why they come out at the weird angle they do.

    And it's a FORD engine. Ford in a Ford! That works for me.

    (Okay, routing the exhaust might be a bit awkward, but ... )

    Hey thats cheating! Thats a V12 but it is kool all the same. Sad they're only good for 275 hp. I still love em though.
