I usually never chime in but the difference is that DOTD is an event held by a certain kind of car club that has clearly stated the rules for the event. The events you speak of don't have the same kind of rules for cars with lesser performance. Thats why they have T/O runs in between rounds for the "other" guys testing. Take your Busa to the Harley drags.

If I owned the track it would be hard to turn a guy away that is spending his time and hard earned money to test his car at my track. I probably couldn't do it so I understand, but it wouldn't be hard at all to turn away a couple of imports, a dodge truck or a mini champ car.

before that car ran the announcer lady talked about the car and how the track runs them a lot. She said they asked him to come out so they could show people what kind of cars they run there.

Still havent figured out the Indy car looking deal though

Yep, and that he**** you were speaking of was one of them. Ugly or not, you have to be impressed with a 4500 lb car that will run like that :D

If that thing was a regular sedan delivery instead of an extra long he****, he would've shaved a second off his time! :D

You guys need to think with your head and not your heart. Everybody is on an adrenalin high because we all had such a great weekend but think of this...
Remember the awesome covered wooden grandstands on the east side of the track? The wind blew the roof off one year and instead of fixing it they tore them down and brought in a few aluminum bleachers from some high school football stadium! Remember when the bathrooms actually had more than a one or two holer? Remember when the showers worked? My point being these people are obviously having a tough time keeping this track open and if it closes....it won't matter what cars ran there on the last weekend it was open. It is the KOOLEST venue around, sitting by the river in a pecan grove with the track actually being part of old Highway 95.
I am not trying to be a downer here but you folks need to really appreciate what a cool thing we got going here. If the price to keep it is simply put up with a few cars you don't feel should attend because of the "rules"...well, that sounds like a pretty cheap fee to me!

I don't want the track to close. The reason this event, and others like the HAMB drags, the pile-up etc. are bursting at the seams with cars and spectators is the strict adherence to the pre 64 Rods, customs and Racers. This is a growing and p***ionate bunch that will travel miles out of the way to go to an event like this.

I think letting in the later stuff would kill the event, (attendance) then the track would lose money. If anything, they should do this twice a year.

Believe me, I'm thinking with my head!

I am really sorry I missed it.

As to the late model testing, that was like family hanging out at your BBQ. He's been around forever and is one of the reasons that track stays open. How many of you go out there every weekend like he does? DotD won't support that track alone. If the owners want to allow one or two favors, why should we care? You can't tell me the door was open to late models if you only counted two or three. I'll also wager that if he'd had something you needed to get your car back home after breaking, that he would lend a hand. It's more fair to say we invade his track one or two days a year than the other way around. Let's look out for our brothers, whatever they drive.

Also remember that this was open to spectators. Loud and fast cars draw them in. There have been one or two pro-mods doing exibition in the past that maybe fudged the year break a little.

Some great points, Dan, and believe me I am not jumping on you or anyone. And I am not trying to be a buzz kill. I heard dozens of people share your view that this was probably his biggest weekend of the year and I think you are absolutely rite that our people will travel for an event like this and twice a year would be awesome. Also we don't have to race for them to make money. If it rains--we still got a gathering of the tribes.
...But I see you are from DFW so all I am saying is...remember our beloved Green Valley 1/4 Mile track??? Remember how we all thought that place could never close?? Nice homes out there now, rite?? All open headers gets you out there now is a big fat noise ticket! In my own humble opinion, the thing that has saved the beautiful facility in Academy is that it is in the flood plane of the Little River so no one wants that land....yet!
I try to go to all the North Texas 1/8 mile tracks at least once a season each just to spectate and the only ****s in the seats are folks that come with the racers. Nothing at all like the party that is DOTD. So I am sure being a trackowner is brutal in these times.
A few years ago someone at the Academy track told me the owners were going to try and hold their own and make one nice improvement a year and sadly I see it going the other way.
I truly am an optimistic person and the main point I am trying to make is that one day we all might be asked to help a situation by digging a little deeper in our pockets or going to a Chamber of Commerce meeting for support, etc. Because one thing I am sure we all agree on...there is not another venue anywhere near as kool hanging around to take the place of this one in case anything happens.
So when a car that doesn't fit the criteria cruises by please just grin and bear it! I personally thought it was hilarious to see that f-1 or SCCA or whatever it was cruising the pits!...I mean what was that guy/gal doing--trying to find the way to the College Station track?!!

At least you were smiling about it, I walked by just after the truck was pushed back from the starting line, and you were grinning ear to ear.

DOTD was Great my first one

I will definitely be back next year.

As far as the non welcomed cars the track can do what it wants varying by its contract for the event.

YEP, this was the best one yet for me, also!!!
    It all started Friday morning.....

Ya know how you are driving down the road and see some "project" car on a trailer going somewhere??? and you are thinking, I wish that was mine?....Well when I was heading to work friday morning, I come up on a shell of a 53 Studebaker Coupe, on a trailer, going down the road....and THIS TIME it was going where I was going:)!!! 'Ol Flattop Bob" was delivering MY project car this time!!!....after we got it unloaded, I took care of a "few" things around the shop and headed home to load up the 3w. Took a bit longer than planned, got to track all late and worn out, so we just hung out visiting with friends...headed to Casey's Party Hotel...more visiting with friends.....this is forming into an all right time so far!

On Saturday morning, we head out to the track and get a spot for our "group", and start playing with the coupe. I was shooting for the 12's that day(as our best time so far before blowing up rearend last year was a 13.1....I know not so "hot poop" to you "overhead guys", but I"m running a street driven Flathead!!!.....common sense has never been a strong suit of mine:rolleyes:). Oh yea, I had some other things that I was trying to accomplish....like keep the rearend and engine in one piece, come home in one piece, and have a good time:D!!! Well throughout the day, I managed to mess up the trans so it wouldn't shift(remember, it wasn't on the "list;)"). BUT the rest of the car stayed together and I had a GREAT TIME....several folks from work showed up, along with other friends, and a congregation of sorts set up around our spot:cool:.....It was a really cool gathering place, and I got to visit inbetween thrashing on the car.
And to the racing portion with other "Diehard Flathead Nuts:eek:", we were all having a fun time. Collin(aka "Casey") and Phil(aka "Saltracer") were the best!!! We all were having a blast with our "antique powered" hotrods!!!
Some how at the end of it all, after several years of thrashing and breaking, I ended up with the bragging rights of "Flathead Eliminator:D"....WhoooHoooo...Graham even was there in our pits so I could give him a hard time!!!.....AND on top of that, the little 32 3w was "the first Flathead at DOTD to get into the 100 mph club:D".....WHOOO HOOOO....What a Day:)!!!!

Sunday we came back to visit(I had the "excuse" of a broken ******, just so I didn't have to race Casey at his "bracket game:rolleyes:".....hahaha....see how I "set that up")

All in all......WOW, WHAT A WEEKEND....Thanks to all the Kontinentals for providing us this opportunity, and a special thanks to Steve, for putting up with "Us Flathead Nuts:cool:"....we really need to go to counseling, but we are having fun, in "our own little world"

Thanks to Everyone for being "your" part of what we all know is one of the Coolest things going on.

What a weekend! Making new friends and visiting with old ones! It can't get any better. The races were awesome! The best thing I saw was on Sunday:

Casey jumping out of Tim's car with three feet of fuel line and the announcer saying "one minute to get to the starting line". Installed the fuel line, installed the floor, the seat and tore out of the pits with seconds to spare! Now thats drag racing.

Thank you Kontinentals for another great time!
