Some of you know that Sorchick has been thrashing on another old pile of rust in his garage for the past few months. The “Suede” will wait out another season, but I think you’ll agree, this new hot rod is bad in its own right. Starting with a nice straight, basic ‘29 Pee cup, he cleaned up the body, assembled a new bed, then sliced out a few inches from the top. You have to look twice to notice something is missing from above the doors. GM 4-holer, aka, Merc-cruiser/Nova/Duke with a five speed. Lots of other neat touches like that dash: Model A cross bred with a 30’s Chevrolet. More to come.

Agreed, but it sure does work.
Hey Lance, send that PU out here and let Dr. Lockjaw and I tie up the loose ends, while you get going on the Suede. It'd make a nice warm-up for the Hemi Willys PU...............
    Lookin' good, man!

there is more to that lil. marine 4 banger guys. try getting honked out .030, the stock dished, slugs replaced with industrial flat tops to kick the compresssion up from 8.2 to 9.5 plus the bore and decking to retrue the head and block. for any that may want to know! gm also makes a industrial ver. of this motor with 10.5 to 1's for running with natural or propane gas. and now even efi for gasoline.just with the gasous mixes it's de hp'd

there is about a good 200 hours of work " and still counting " into building the trick lance, custom intake/exhaust system so the stock marine 2 barrel carb works. it's based off a header flange from stahl headers and something only lance could come up with. a cherry bomb glass pack gutted out, makes the intakes base. with a pair of 2.5 inch core plugs to seal off the ends.

cam is the stock marine grind. which one looks and checks the specs of is almost dead on = to a iskie 3/4 race grind. with that hopes are high for a small amount of cam girgle out of it. gm's stock industrial cam is not good for more then a pump or generator. while the marine camshaft specs allow for power in a very streetable 1.500 to 4.500 rpm range.

that trans is a old borg warner t5od from one of his old dayily drivers, a s10 chevy. the rear a 8.0 inch ford from a old maverick. the rims you all see in the photo's are lance specials.

that dash board is from a 1940 chevy, the steering colume is 100 % lance built. no store purchased parts in it. so please guys don't knock the lack of chop on this ride. lance has due cause for that. meaning to be driven more then shown. don't ask me what color.i sure don't know more yet !other then suede.

    PS

while i forgot this major point.

lets all give Lance and his wonderfull wife Di. both some big hip hip who-rahs. for being able to do what many of us still dream about. they have retired. so now both can enjoy their collection of cars. jersey suede among them.

this little pick up seems to lack the top chop of the normal Lance custom. inside. the truck, the motor, wheels, steering and a lot more. every one will find his well known one of a kind hall marks.

thought i would go and dig this one back out and to near the posting top.

lance cut working on the pick up long enough to drop a newer flatie in to the roadster. lots of work. the motor at first over heated, we had to pull the heads and do a head gasket job to it. did a full rewireing of the car by hand,no wireing kit in to it.

bad part the motor is a smoker. who ever built it who knows when and how many miles later. sleaved it back to standard and never decked the block. head gaskets just barely seal the bores. so much for the roadster for now. it will go back on the waiting list. to get the small block chevy sitting and waiting.

pick up wise the mercruiser motor is now all freshly built and waiting to go back home. left to do is plumb the brake lines. finish some minor body work, primer, wireing, fuel tank and drive it.

for any one thinking about useing this motor.lance and i have lots of the factory true information about the propane ver, and the marine ver. this small motor can be turned into a small honker, trick is finding a newest one possible as the head is where the help is. then finding a fork lift generator supply shop for the parts. geepers i even found a parts list of the gm part numbers.it's in french, but the numbers still read english.

So I have to put my two cents in. Yesterday after a major thrash with Jersey Greaser (AKA Charlie), we managed to get all issues sorted out and fired the 'A' Bone up!!! YEEEHAAAA!!

There is NOTHING like starting and driving a new project!!!

This old gal has a lot of spunk and wants to light the rear tires up whenever it can. Guess I'll have to watch that weak S-10 trans so I don't blow it. But the truck can't weigh too much so it'll break 'em loose without trying.

Yeah, I know, the truck sits too low, but give me a break, I love that cartoon look and just plan on driving the thing locally. After I cut the front fender braces at the headlight bar mount, no more scrubbing occurred, so that's a positive thing. I kind of like the idea of blistering the paint on the top of the fenders from a little tire rub. Hey, it's my fantasy so I'll enjoy it before reality sets in!!

Thanks to my buddy Charlie for all of the effort he's put into this project over the past year. It really is a dream to get it moving under its own power.

Love the little A. I've been taken by them ever since Jake built his when it was Pete and Jakes Hot Rod Repair, a looooooog time ago. Like everything in Lance's stable you won't mistake it as being owned by anyone else. And as Martha Stewart says, "and that's a good thing":)

Here are a couple of shots of the dash and interior. Stock 'A" dash rail welded to the lower half of a '28 Chevy dash. Homemade dash insert from a pile of crap I had laying around. Police Special speedo from 1940 and a couple of Auto Meter gauges to "match".

Column was built by Charlie from more junk. Column drop is an old funky connecting rod, steering wheel is NOS Crosley. The rest is still to come.
