"When Studebaker went out of business, they stopped buying those Ford engines..."

Studebaker never went out of business (they are a leasing company on Long Island)

Went Studebaker stopped building cars, they were using Chevrolet engines

As mentioned, Ford never built engines for Studebaker, 289 or otherwise.

The lady was not a expert but I found this statement to be real funny :)

I was headed up to Charlotte NC on Interstate 77 in my 430 HP 32 Ford roadster and was running about 80/85 MPH. I came up on a big, white Chrysler ( with Florida tags ) that had a older senior citizen couple in it. They were going about 60/65 MPH. I moved over to the left lane and passed them. 40 or more miles up the Interstate, I stopped at the Rest Area ... used the Men's room and they were pulling up as I was getting back in the roadster.

The elderly man and woman walked over to the roadster and asked me what kind of car is that ? I answered a 1932 Ford. The lady said ... It keeps up with the traffic real good to be that OLD ;)

At a small show & shine I was showing some older guys under the hood when a woman literally stomped up to me, pointed to the shaved rear door handle and said "I can still tell it's a 4 door!!" and stomped away.

You know, I'm 61 and been rodding for nearly 50 years. Have seen plenty of guys and what they were "going to do" and never did. Some are now dead.
Just work six or eight hours a day and all weekend and get it on the road. It's never done anyway. Forget the excuses, As a kid I chisled off (a lot of) rivets at 2AM in the winter converting a '37 Chevy coupe knee-action front end to a straight axle. Bothered the neighbors but not me.
Drive it and the rest just happens. Then you too can have the experts explain what you did wrong.

I always have to tune into this thread, 'cause I am ALWAYS amazed at the things that come out of people's mouths. AND, they don't even REALIZE how silly-goofy they sound!

Churchill once said: "It is often BETTER to remain silent and have others think you a fool than to speak and remove ALL DOUBT."

But some people can't resist showing their ignorance, CAN they?

Some people should be removed from speed week, they just don't get it. I think Harley Earle himself would have liked to see that going really fast out there. maby those people mistook it for a gold chainers car show and they were confused trying to find the little plastic trophy's?

  11. Went to look at a Model A project car last weekend and the guy was a "biker". After looking around his shop, he told me that I could have the 305 laying beside the car and he could get me atleast 700 HP out of it if I had him build it. He said the best thing about building it was, he could use the stock heads and it would run on pump gas. I'll admit, my mechanical background isn't the greatest, but if that's the case, I'm missing out on a huge secret!!!

I think for the most part people want to say something about our cars but don't know much about what they are about to say. Its kind of like the post about the bent axle on the Pontiac with the independant rear end. Who, except for "car guys" is going to remember some of the things that made these cars really unique?

    Some things that have been said about my 56. Not all were experts;

"why are you putting the gas in the tail light?"
"Did you have an accident, where is the front bumper?"
"I bet that thing uses alot of gas doesnt it?"
"Your cars too loud, ever hear of noise pollution?"(a teacher at my sons school as I dropped him off)
"I know a guy who had a car just like that"
"Is that handle a trunk release?" (battery shut off per NHRA rules)

driving to a show last summer (keep in mind my car is a work in progress and is almost ready for paint), some jackass pulls up next to me at a stop light and yells "SCRAP IT". I told him I was going to scrap his face, and he turned off in his shitty 97 f150. I just wish he could have been there when my car won an award just a few hours later.

I've had people look at the 6 banger in my 56 ford and say, "Ya gonna put a Chevy in it." And after the smoke clears, I reply," No, I want it to start. That always starts some kind of Chev is better than Ford Bullshit.

The best one I ever heard was at Hershey. A guy and his lady pulled in, in one of the nicest 41 caddy I've ever seen. Another guy comes over, looks inside, and say's to the owner, " What wrong, Ya cant afford a new one?" and walks away while the owner spuddered.

ya i know, but people think that is true for all of them.

    that reminds me...
ME: "...and a 259 that i'm gonna put in it"
    STUDEBAKER OWNER: "259, thats a 6 right?"
wtf? I would expect that from most people, but studebaker guys should know that studebaker made small v8s (224, 232, 259, 289, 304.5)

which also reminds me, I have a friend who assures me that the heater in my truck is not stock, the 259 will not bolt onto the 6's mounts, and various other things that I am really sure are not true. He is letting me store and work on my truck at his place though so I dont argue too much.

  25. I had my '54 F100 in for state inspection, and an older guy was eyeing it. He turns to me and says:

    Is that your truck?

    Yes.

    What year is it?

    1954.

I learned how to drive in a '55.

    Oh really? Cool.

Yeah, it was a Ford though. Nice truck. I always liked the looks of them better too...

  26. Oh, and I am seriously tired of - "You know what Nova means in Spanish don't ya?"
