They worked fine and then my drivers door keeps popping open (32 ford roadster) Tried everything, had them out the door, checked it seems fine. The spring seems tough enough, Dosent even need to be a pothole to pop it open,it'll pop open even when the road is smooth . Any ideas?

i have them in my 34, not good for a 34 door to pop open, i adjusted the sticker plate out a little and it is working fine now, i am glad i put hood pins in the door to keep them from opening, hope that helps

  3. How old are they?
Are you sure they are latching completely? If you close the door slowly there should be a feeling of them latching at two different points. There is a safety point and then fully latched. It sounds to me like they aren't adjusted so that the post goes in far enough. Otherwise they are dirt cheap, put in new ones.

Well they are 9 years old. They do latch fully and I have checked them against the pass door, both latch fully home.I can drive 20 miles and the driver door pops open 3 or 4 times (not all the way, just to the first point)The pass door stays closed. I've had them out the car and cant see how they should pop open, good tight spring. I guess its new ones.

  5. Is there some kind of linkage or another mechaical problem making the bearclaws open?

My guess is that the latches are still set too tight. The door might be latching, but not all of the way. Set the striker out a little and see if the problem goes away, this might look like the door is slightly open; but will help you determine what the problem is.

Are they electrically operated? Or via mechanical linkage? If they are electrical, is there a short/loose wire somewhere? Check the switch. Check the release tang for wear or debris. Start with the easy stuff, it's usually something stupid.

mine are mechanically done in my truck and the first thing i ran into was the weight of the inner door handle was enough to pop em open goin down the road.i got some springs from osh and attached them the the door relays so they would keep tension on the handles, three years runnin no issues.it doesnt take much to pop em thats for sure.

sometimes the weight of the solenoid will pop them open on electrical controlled ones.

This may sound a little crazy. Try a spot of oil where the latch parts rub together. The glove box in my Ranger pickup would pop open all the time. We figured vibrations would cause the dry latch parts to slide one way and not the other. It hasn't done it since I oiled it 2 years ago.

Here is another question, when you shut your doors, are they tight? Or in other words is there any in and out play in the door? If this is the case, then as I mention they are too tight; move the striker out a little and they should be fine. It is like they need to go over center to latch correctly. Its possible that they need a little lube too.

....its mechanical inside door handle with no tension on it.I even removed the handle and the rod inside the door to find out if that causing to pull against the latch. Its all oiled up and the return springs are good.

Next time you remove the bearclaws, change them side for side (driver
to passenger and vice-versa) and see what happens.

Is there a reverse tension spring on the linkage to prevent the latch from being tripped by vibration?

  16. I just installed a set of these.......when you close your door slowly, you should definately hear it click once....and then click a 2nd time when fully latched.

I didn't see it mentioned, but are you latches the ones with a lock mechanism also.....the ones I just installed did NOT have a lock (as in to lock the door)

No lock mechanism, and the door does click twice.I've done all the measurements so both doors are exactly the same regarding latch to striker clearance. Plenty of head scratching here.!

As said above they have to latch twice. Is the striker (nader) bolt moving on you? Might need to check it to make sure it did not slide in on you from door closing efforts. I had one that moved and had to be adjusted periodically so that the latches would "click twice". Good luck.

what about the striker bolt does it have a head on it if not the play between door and body could let it slip out of the latch

It does have a head on it. I'm playing around with it. How about I just bolt the doors shut and just leap in the car !!!
