I got my car running ok but I think the old flatty needs to be gone through, I got my hands on a 1966 327 from a dude that owed me some cash and I was thinking about throwing it in but just wanted to hear what everybodies take would be on it. Thanks

  2. wasn't a SBC an option on Ford's up to the 60"s? :D

That's funny $hit. I really dig the flatty but it would be nice to get 2x the hp right out of the box.

You can adapt the SBC to your transmission, install it and drive while you get the flattie back in shape. By that time you will be spoiled by the response and performance of the SBC and that's a good thing.
You can then get a nice Model A and build the A-V8 you've always wanted.

Do it and keep the hood closed. you can always rebuild the flatty after you pull it, and if it's horsepower you're after you'd be better off with the 327.

  7. If you got to motors one good and one bad and you want to drive it seems to me that your best option is to use the good one.

One thing that we seem to forget in our crate motor world is that the SBC was the hot setup from day one.

????? How about keep it a Blue Oval there (BlueOval). Love shoeboxs....come on man ya killing the ford gods here...either keep the flatty or go to a 302....end of story. Unless it came with 350 then dont put one in a ford.

I had the same choice. The 327 is rebuilt ready to go on the engine stand and the blown 276 flatty is in my 40 Ford. LOL

When I first bought the car I never would have thought about it, but I've kind of changed my mind. I guess I would have to change my name to (BLUE OVALsbc)Lol. The flatty is *****in but this is pretty *****in too.

I'll have a GM motor in my Ford right after someone kills me and does it themselves :)
I was thinking of making a shirt for going to car shows that says "Oh you put a SBC in your car? Hoooooooow Oriiiiiginallll" hmm not as funny in text as it is in my head...

I vote sell the 327 and use the money towards getting the flatty fixed up. But my vote means 0

is that the exact engine you're talking about?

I understand the SBC in a ford, but i like Ford in a Ford.

But if that's the donor.... it looks like you'll be smoking those tires soon.

  15. Do what works for you...

Never ask here if a SBC is okay...too manny people overlook cost/necessity to blast a viable plan of action. Not like you have to butcher the car to do it. I say swap it in and dress it appropriately...

    my 2 cents

I'd put the SBC in there, especially if you're gonna drive it.

I think that car almost needs the SBC. I don't think the Flathead looks right if that not the weirdest thing to say really. Your car has flames and begs for an abusive amountof power that the flathead isjust not going to deliver....without huge dollars.

No that's not the exact one just an idea of what I would do if I put it in. I thought I would get flamed for asking but so far it seems pretty even. Everybody brings up good points but the end result is it is my car and I'm gonna do what I want with it. I picture the shoebox as more of a palette for a custom wich would mean not stock, but I do appreciate everybodies opinions and I'm taking everything into consideration.Btw either way I'm gonna hang on to the flatty and I might have to get another Ford to put it in. Model A (dream car);) Thanks again guys

Do a search for B***'s shoebox on the board here, he runs a bad *** chevy mill in his ford and it's OK :D. You want it to be a hot rod right? Fun to drive with the ability to actually accelerate? Possibly even spin the tires? Possibly wax some ricers? Do it man! SBC's rule.

Yeh, if your not a die hard ford guy you might as well do the sbc. I had trouble making the choice to keep my flathead but at the end of the day the sbc will run better and perform better with out spending alot cash.

Like an earlier poster said, put the sbc in with the original trans - that way you can put it back to original later when the flattie is rebuilt, and you still you get to drive it and have fun in the meantime. Must be enough kits and parts to do it easily, and it doesn't have to be in there forever.
How about ****ing with peoples heads and painting the sbc blue?

I loke the idea SBC then rebuild the flatty and find a cool Model A to put it in .Your gonna need a new project to work on after you put the 327 in cause it wont have anymore problems with it.:D
