History the Funny Car

I have a 16x20 printed from the original slide it's a great shot from photographer D.D. Cleavland.

 

Looks like you have the original front clip and doors? What happened to the rest of the original chassis? I saw you were restoring this car a while back, really cool!

The original body got scrapped years ago. But they saved the glass parts for what ever reason?

 

Small update,I finally tracked down a pair of rebuilt and correct 64 race Hemi K heads.One more piece of the puzzle I can check off.

i agree i just finally got the 65 aluminum k heads for my HEMI and correct valve covers they are very hard to find. also bought the correct light weight steel fenders,doors,hood for my A-990 Plymouth the car is getting restored now

 

Hey Funnycar65....could you give us new guys a brief rundown on the history of your build. Very interesting.

 

Yeah tell me about it.There are so many parts that are year specific to these cars.The search for correct stuff is the fun part too me though.

 

Not much to tell really.I bought the glass parts from Jim Kramer,got the lead on them from Dick Towers.And have been tracking down correct parts and photos for reference.I want to get the car as era correct as I possibly can.I'm shooting for mid 1966 as my goal.

 

I seen a picture of your car in Hot Rod Delux and wanted to know more now i found this and am happy to say i did this is an awesome thread i love old original A/fx cars they are some of the coolest from the day.

Still hunting for parts,hope to get all the sheet metal work done this spring and summer.

 

Just saw an old home video and you car was drag racing in it! As soon as I figure out how to unlock it I'll post up the whole vid on you tube. Long gone mustang was in there too.

I bought another 2dr sedan with plans of building a street driver AWB,but it's alot cleaner then the one I was going to use for the Funny Car.(see my Telstar thread for for build photos ).I decided to use that body for my recreation of the Funny Car.Started fitting the fiberglass and got the rear wheels and slicks restored.It's back on,finally!

 

Front's are cleaned up and ready for tires.

I had Nostalgic Racing Decals make mine,I'm sending it and a couple of the others back though.They're not right.

 

I have a great scan of the Isky one if you need it. Nice progress on the car btw, I've been following it for some time. Can't wait to see it done!

Front tires mounted now I can get the front axle set in the right spot and welded in solid.

 

Good Year Super Cushions? Man those are rare

Custom Super Cushions, bought them new from Kelsey Tire,they are as visually close as I can find for the car.

 

Trunk floor and extensions are in,just need to get the trunk area and underside blasted and ready for paint.
