I love your magazine. I have been a subscriber for 20 years and will continue to subscribe for the next 20. But....

Can we please leave the 80"S where they belong? IN THE PAST!!!

They were bad enough to have to grow up in. Going to Super Chevy Sunday with my pops and seeing all the Street Machines and Street Freaks every where.

    I mean come on! REALLY!!!

Gold Moroso valve covers, Wire Cragers, rainbow graphics, gold anodized Center Lines, hood scoops on anything other than a drag car and chain steering wheels. They all make me just sick.

Lets leave the bad taste alone. It's over, we somehow lived through it.

Motley Crue still rocks but most of us don't have big hair or mullets anymore. There is a reason for that.

OK RANT OVER!!! Sorry just had to get that out. I'm going to go work on my car now.

    P.S.

I do happen to like the blueish green shorts on the babe on page 62. Those are always alright with me!!!!!:D

Amen to that. The only two good things to come out of the 80's were "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and the "A-Team".

I'm not renewing my sub this time. I keep sending the sub card back pleading with them to go to monthly subscription rates for Hot Rod Deluxe though. I like that mag a lot. It's more in tune with what I dig. Are you listening Hot Rod?

Don't worry guys.....that 80s stuff will have a following one day. And a bunch of loosers who like it will start a message board dedicated to it.

I just figure that some things faded out for a reason.

Sure the 235 predates the 80's DUH!

I really think you totally missed the whole point of my rant.

Oh yeah. Spell check and the shift key are your friend.

  12. What many folks seem to forget, or never knew, is that Hot Rod's by line for years was "Everyones Automotive Magazine". From that perspective, there is probably lots of articles in each issue that will not trip everyones trigger, but take from it those things that you enjoy. Hell, for less than a buck a month, I have to think there is something you can learn from each issue.

While what you say MAY be true about the magazine, wouldn't this rant get thier attention if it was sent to them? Just a thought. While I do miss some of the now gone writers and editors of the past, it does have a decent issue every now and then. Hell, a couple HAMBers and events have gotten coverage in it.

I subscribe, but it was a 2 year deal I found on the internet for $12. Couldn't beat 50 cents an issue.:) Gotta take the good with the bad, man

Don't forget The Hollywood Knights! 1980 or so. They weren't even making Torq Thrusts anymore but you could still get real Thrush straight through mufflers. Yeah the painted bumper easter egg color street rods ought to be gone for good. Along with rainbow graphics, CBs, air shocks, mullets, etc..

Hey, it had good Bonneville coverage. I agree about the 80s stuff, but they don't print the whole magazine just for me.

  25. I guess I'm just into hot rods... anything with a motor that looks cool, goes like hell and is engineered well.

I liked the 80's street racing vibe... and still dig Center Lines, Moroso valve covers, and 60's muscle that still has it's original interior.

Just like the tradional hot rod guys who ***** about the shock rods and rat rods... there are elements of 80's hot rodding that is just as cool, and it gets overshadowed by monochrome paint and graphics.

There was an excitement we felt back then when we cruised the blvd, went to a Wednesday grudge night, went street racing or just plain hung out and worked on our cars. It is the same excitement guys feel when they power park their rat rod at a rat rod rockabilly tattoofest, or have a post go to 5 pages on a messageboard about the traditional hot rod they just mocked up in the driveway... so, why bag on it?

    Stuck in the 80's...

and no, my Nova didn't have a g***er stance... it's just accelerating.

I kinda like some of that stuff - centerlines are awesome and will be cool again someday - What really bugs me is the kit car they are building right now. I don't subscribe to "KIT CAR" and never will......

  27. Santa Monica Blvd runs right through West Hollywood, the heart of the "lifestyle" in the LA area. I always thought there was a bit of irony in their zip code.
Reminds me, also, of "Fast Times" where Stu Nahan is interviewing Jeff ****oli. "Those guys are f*gs."

What's wrong with a jump suit and retangle headlights in a fat fender'd Ford? The rainbow grafix match the jump suit. I think the "H" on the suit stands for Hot Rod, but not a car or magazine. I do enjoy the mag, but not every article. I kinda noticed the last issue was using a model standing by a 1st generation Camero. Are they trying to wrangle in the rockabilly car culture? Just my $.02

I saw the December issue with a different opinion.

The shots and story on Bonneville are not real detailed, but I enjoyed them none the less.

The blown 32 Roadster running on white letter Good Years on page 21 could sit in my garage anytime (an 80's street freak at that...).

The redo of Project Crusher Camaro with the Cragars and blown big block is dead on and would rock any cruise-in, grudge night or drive-in on a cool summer Saturday evening.

I dig the "Hack" street rod with Jaguar drivetrain on page 29.

I could do without the new car drag junk, but I still respect what those guys are doing.

After more than 40 years, the Hot Rod "Test Car" is back as a throwback to the original red 67 Camaro with "Test Car" also on the door, though it would have been cool to have seen a pic of the original along with the article. Wonder how many people even remember that little red "67?

The 70's/80's street machine pics were right on with what we were doing 30 years ago in high school and I still dig seeing a muscle car sitting up a little high with a tunnel ram or blower, graphics, white letter tires and all. Of course, we were buying those cars back then for $1,000 and then modifying them, impossible today (sound familiar?)

Oh yeah, a couple of g***er (well at least an ex g***er and a street freak) tri fives on page 62. I'd take either one of those too. And a couple of cool vintage drag pics...

I did see ONE car with a chain steering wheel, an over the top mopar that even the magazine joked was nearly lowrider style, but it showed the outer fringe of the movement at the time (OK, I would take this one but would HAVE to change a few things!)

Geez, it's a cheap little paper magazine thrown together over the last 4 weeks.

Read it and dig it like I did (probably one of the better issues I have seen in awhile), or just ignore it on the newstand.

    Happy Motoring!

PS: Oh yeah, my high school ride from 1981-82 (Wish I still had it in the garage too...)
