Made my pitman arm today. I had to cut off the large end and rotate it so the key way would work with my 40 box. I shortened the small end and welded in a new ball joint.

Now this is what hot rodding is all about, doing it your way and getting what you want. It's going to be a very cool 3/W and cares if it's mostly fiberglass, I for one won't tell anyone. Good luck on the build and keep us posted. You little girl looks like she knows what she's doing great photo.

Great Thread. Great Work. Keep it going. I'm undertaking an exact type of build, except with a Flattie as the Powersource. You've just helped me decide to go with an original looking firewall instead of the flat one.

Keep up the good work and the updates.

Another full day in the shop. My buddy Don is still blocking his butt off. I'm so glad to have his help, I hate sanding.

I cut the center tube down and welded in a flat piece to give the drive shaft a little more room, still need to hoop it.

I took apart the front end tonight so I can start prepping it for paint.
To lower the rear I had to remove the top leaves of the rear spring. Cut, flatten and stack them on the bottom. That changed the pitch of the perch mount on the rear wish bones. I had to heat them with the torch and bend them once again. Don't want them to bind up.

It was a good day, got to go back to work tomorrow. Can't wait to get back in the shop!

Nice build. Do us a favor and weld a gusset in your hairpin.

    I'd second this one.

Don't see any hairpins on this chassis.

What manner of deal are you other guys talking about?

EDIT: Maybe they mean the fabricated steering arm on the left front spindle. If that's not it, I'm out. A gusset won't hurt anything there, but I don't see it as "weak" like he has it built.

This is what I think he means. See photo

Truly spectacular project and build with excellent craftsmanship. What a remarkable accomplishment. And the fact of so many build photos is like a textbook.

Yes, I meant the steering arm. I almost lost a friend to one of these 35 years ago.

Thanks for the concern, this is all new to me and I appreciate any and all input on safety. If this needs to be beefed up than that what I will do. I will start a new thread right now on the subject, thanks!

I have lots of little things to get done now. This week I will do my best to get all the little things ready for paint. The front is all apart again so I cut off the extra eye on my spindle. [IMG]

    Great job
I think what people are saying is to gusset the slingshot steering arm like this.
