Apparently parts of the fence is still standing today. *CORRECTION*... {Puncture and thrown tire occured on the 5th lap at Guinee Woods Turn. Not 1st lap as mentioned previously} Photo below taken at the Bulls Head Hotel. This was the temporary garage used by Walter White during the race.

Jim, Unfortunately there aren't enough of these images available. I personally enjoy them more than the on track shots. Pit stops, mechanics working on engines, etc... There is no enjoyment from these two photos but i does give one a different view of racing after the war when so many lost their lives. After hitting a stray dog, Pietro Bordino, winner of the '22 Italian GP and one time participant at the Indy 500, drowned while practicing at the 1928 Circuito d'Alessandria. At the 1926 Targa Florio, Giulio Masetti was killed in the #13 Delage. The last time this number would be used in motor races.
I love this thread and check it regularly. Not much I can contribute, but I do have the accompanying photo. No information on date and driver, but I do know it was taken at the old "Legion" track in Salem, Ind. That track was about a half-mile, at the foot of the hill on the fairgrounds, where a smaller track is now located. The print was given to me while I was a newspaper editor in Salem by the owner of a photo studio which operated there for many years. About all I can say is that looks like a Chevrolet logo on the radiator. The track was being used well into the 40s and maybe 50s, because I can recall Joie Ray and others telling me about it.
From Le Mans to Muroc: Figoni et Falaschi "Goutte d'Eau coupe on the Talbot-Lago T150C SS 4 litre ch***is. A virtually identical car finished third in 1938 at Le Mans. This one was raced at the dry lakes by Tommy Lee.
Kurtis although I am not a big fan of photos with them turned turtle, sometimes it does help to identify which engine they had in the car. Here is one of my favorite pics, not so much the car but rather Bob Burman. You can almost see the lust in his eyes. This is Guyot's Sunbeam (6 cyl) for the 1913 Indy but Bob Burman is the guy in the dark coat in the middle. He was running a Keeton in the race but I can almost imagine Burman thinking how this would be a nice compliment to the fun he had with the Big Blitzen Benz. It would not be too long until Packard bought the big Sunbeam 12 (Toodles V) and ended up match racing the car against the Blitzen at Sheepshead. I am quite sure Burman wheeled the Benz againgst Toodles V at least on one occasion. I would bet he would have wanted this car in his racing stable as well. I wonder did this Sunbeam of Guyot's go back to England for maybe some ***ault work at Brooklands?-Jim

I havn't seen the article Bob, but Ettore's car was up for sale at Bonhams at the end of Spetember ch***is 417 did it make sale ?? I think i have some pictures (somewhere) of the car when it was at the BOC museum at Prescott. Keith . .

I had a feeling this car would of attracted some discussion. This car is just beautiful. One of my all time favorite Bugs. Fell short of the 1.8million Euro's. Bidding stopped at 1.4million Euro's.
