I like the new doors much better, the fact that they will open will make it look more like a "real" car (what ever that means) I also think the headlites stick out too far, I also dig the skirts and the expanded steel below the trim idea. You are doing a KICK *** job on this car and I applaud the fact that you are not afraid to cut stuff apart and redo it to your liking, although I am wondering if you will ever finish it if you keep changing it LOL

The windshield height looks perfect in the picture with you sitting in it. Better perspective that way, I didn't realize how much the rear of the car steps down from the cowl.

The half doors are an interesting idea, you'd probably be the first. Would be neat if they slid forward into the front fenders like a Kaiser Darrin.

i was trying to figure out a way to do that and keep the flow, but i couldn't figure it out,,,so the half doors were the next best option i could come up with,,

This is probably a stupid idea, but could the top half of the door slide down into the bottom half? Like on a power window regulator with tracks. It would only have to come down a foot, if that. Roll the door down, climb in, roll the door back up.

    man...

you are friggin amazing. Its to the point now where most people can't think of any way to improve the design.

The guys who are giving their input are the best of the best... that says a bunch.

I can't wait to see the finished product!

  10. Somethings wrong, I don't see any spiderwebs or skulls?!:D

Dig the new doors, damn near close to "time to stop cutting" and finish up the work!

Love the new doors and skirts. Smoother headlight transition looks good to me, too. I like the idea of the half doors, too, you could slide them back into the quarters rather than down AND you could incorporate roll up windows in there if you want. You'd still be able to affect your lower cove if you want.

I wasn't a fan of the windshield until I saw you sitting in it. Fits well, even if you are ugly. But that's the most talented ugly I've ever seen.

    I like it.
Yet (for what it's worth) something seems broken, in the lines of it past the rear of the door cut. Like it's the rear half of another design. Something about the cowl height looking like it is 5 or 6 inches higher at center line then the center of the "deck" makes it seem not balanced in side view. Even from the front 3/4 view it looks like the rear portion is dropping off and out of sight.
But I like it as it is, and it's a very inspiring feat with many cool things happening.
If it were me, I'd raise it up in the rear and make the flow of it continual, like a shooting star. Very Graceful.
Like the rework on the door you did....you've nailed it, flows so nicely.

  23. Hey Jim, looks like You just had a Bob Metz moment, The new upper door line flows perfectly! The old line had too much "round" in it for Me, now You got Flow! Your arm fits the angle perfectly, You look like a true Man of Leisure (My ultimate Goal!) behind the wheel !

I had typed out a long reply about why it wasn´t going to work with the door tops added back, as it was just making the car look like it was broken in half - but then I went went back to the PS pic and tried again. Straightened out the lines a bit to get around the broken look and what do you know! So now we have one forwards sweeping trim coming off the top of the skirt, with no kink or dip in it to break up the lines, and then a thick piece of trim curving down off the top line of the front fender, across the door top and sweeping down and the lower part of the curve makes up the front of the skirt.

    What do you think?

The only way I could get it to work was with the skirt - the original curved down side trim gives a cut in half look that I couldn´t see any way around. Not to say there´s no way to do it, but I´d really have to give it some thought (and that /\ took long enough!)

I did a quick PS to move the front of the fin forward to meet the line in the door, then came back and saw james D's rendition, but here it is anyway.
