Haha I had that same problem last week with my Caddy! I did the old "one last ride before winter" got her out last sunday morning about 30-40 mins away from home and the generator light comes on. I made it about half way back home on the juice left in the battery, then she quit.

Most parts are still easy to find too.

Are you the girl that has the Buick that your Dad wanted you to git rid of for the Dodge ?

  11. Be patient, it will happen. I got my '66, then had tire trouble, then carb, then steering, then brakes, now the hydos won't lift. It is always something, but that is part of the fun.

First thing to do before letting any "mechanic", certified or otherwise get their hands on your new (to you) car, is get yourself a copy of the factory service manual for your specific year, make, and model. A lot of manuals are available online, possibly even electronically, but nothing beats having an original copy, printed when your car was new. Start perusing from page one at your leisure, to really learn about your own car. Try the vintage auto book sellers, both on line, and at the swap meets.

Second (first if you just happen to be at the keyboard) is to get on the forum at slantsix.org. These guys know more about the slant six than just about anybody on the planet.

Another good forum site for these cars is forabodiesonly.com

This ought to get you started. At least you'll begin to understand (and possibly fix yourself) the little things that are driving you batty right now.

I'm really glad that your not the same girl,

because their was something a little off about that situation !

Like others have said, slow down and relax a little and things will work out for the

    better on your ride.

First things first with the mechanic parts and then the show stuff.

    Good Luck to ya,

If I was closer I would help .

I'm sure someone will come to the rescue and help ya out,

ain't that what rodding is supposed to be about anyway ?

maybe in the south but not here in cali ppl just arent as friendely. Im from greensboro. That one of the things i miiss about nc was the friendely ppl. Any way i will have to wait i have no option but to wait. I love her an want her to run right.

  25. see, now if someone can drop by and help get your engine prrrrrrrrr'in , you'll be
roll'in in no time angelcakes. Listen to these guys, a lil at a time, and couple of lil problems solved, and the big ones will dissappear. finding a shop manual will help, check EvilBAY, or find an ol school shop near you, stop in and bat them eyes, and ask some questions, you know us guys like to brag.. There are alot of good people out there, whether it be Southern Carol and Southern Cali, their just harder to find, cause their working their tails off right now, because their honest, and weren't thiefs..so they gotta work. good luck, keep smil'in.

Buy a subaru if you want something you can just get in and drive - I got one :)

Now that you also own an old car, listen to the advice above, do what you can now and if you cant do it and it relates to safety (brakes and steering in particular) ask around here and find a reputable shop. The other stuff, well like has been suggested above ask for some help but have the beer handy when it turns up. BTW just because you a chick dont mean you can be trusted with the food though..... :)

i have been treated very nicely here on the h.a.m.b. i think ive found a good an honest guy to work on my car. ive never been a bat my lashes kinda gal (i dont think it would work for me anyway) i do love a man with car grease under his nails though always have:p greaser boys oue la la are sexy down to the dickies an go joe hand cleaner. i always adored all the guys at my pops shop growing up. i can sit an listen to a man dork out on cars all day.;) i can do minor things like change plugs an wires , put on a starter or alternator. i will get the manual an try to do more things my self . one of the reasons i choose this car was how easy it was to work on. an i was told it was a very strong motor. its a shame i live clean on the other side of the country from my dad. were i in north carolina it would already be cherry. i talk to my day a lot about this car an he seems just as excited about it as i am (ok well maybe not as excited as me) but he is pretty damn happy for me. i think mostely cas we have kinda bonded a bit over it . an he just loves cars any way.
