to fit a closed driveshaft to a modern transmission,
cut off tail housing flange
mill flat,
make a mild steel plate
attach rear bearing retainer

chopped and channeled in 1954

 

bolt came out of ring gear
got between ring and pinion
all the other bolts were less than finger tight
I had been driving it for 10 years like that
