Ian- man the work looks great in person. It was great meeting you guys- and I mentioned you Saturday night and Dewey and Julie had nothing but great things to say about you and your work. You were right about Gene's class... now I just gotta jump into it! Let me know if you feel like coming to Texas man!

    Spaz

I think I took a picture of every car Gene had at his place too lol.

Ian....more GREAT work!!!!!!! These pics are GREAT!! It's really going to help me when I go to chop mine. Those lines are perfect!

  10. That's an understatement! I've wanted to try that on a car, but never had the stones to try it. I just traded for a '68 C-10 Chevy PU, that I might cut the roof off of and build an open truck, just to see if I can pull it off right...and THEN try cutting on a coupe and chop the top!!!

    Thanx Muncie!!

Got some more done on the Chevy, Got the other inside B pillar finished and strong and the other door top. No need for pics, it looks exactly the same!!
Finished the 1/4 window corners today and started on the inner structure but ran out of GAS:mad:.

First i made a cut to relieve the tension between the beltline and the roof corner

braced the corners to be able to work without having to pull and to keep everything straight.

I forgot, i also cut a bit of sail panel to be able to pull the corners properly without forcing

cut a section of the rear window corner. Im going with a tighter corner so not to lose window size. So the original corner was cut in half and a couple pie cuts

then you make the cuts and start to fill in the empty spots, and i also added a piece on the end to fill in the big empty spot so i can lay my sail panel and it'll follow the line.

I also trimmed the the top piece to the rear window and clamped it and i think it'll flow real nice. It will still maintain the roundness in the back. It definitely not gonna be flat. the pics suck because it was getting dark and i suck at the camera settings.

Tomorrow finish the inner structure and weld the bottom of the rear window......Friday, on to the sail panels

Thanx guys!! :) I'm stoked you guys like it!!:)

Chadillac, There's absolutely no pressure on taking the shoebox over here, it's ALL up to you and we'll still be friends if you don't!!:) I need 3 weeks for the chop.
If there's nothing after this I'm thinking of buying a 49-52 and chop it, customize it , Lower it and sell it to somebody to finish!!

Hi Ian. Hey, I probably missed this info...maybe you've already said, but did you take some welding and/or metal-forming classes? Or did you pick this stuff up by just doing? I know you said that you studied many other chops, but have you had training? If you say you learned it on your own, I'm just gonna fall down!.......:D - Rick (Thanks Ian)

I took a 2 day class with Gene Winfield and bought his videos, Watched them a whole bunch and a lot of YOUTUBE and pictures. I LOVE this stuff !! I am far from Metal shaping like i've seen some do on here ( There's a thread called " let's see some metal shaping") but I'm learning and Having fun doing it. I've also been unemployed for 1 year so far , so i've had a lot of time in the garage to mess around. I still need to really get busy and good with the english wheel, that's definitely not as easy as it looks!
I think most people can do it if they take it seriously!!

    Thanx bro!!:)

dude you deffinately have an eye for proportion that chop is the perfect amount. and speaking of the wheel how long have you been using it?????? seems as if you either picked it up pretty quick or youve been at it a while.
