Kinda forgot about that......the girl telling us she wouldn't serve us until I pulled my car in facing forward. Yep, just what I want to look at while eating.....an empty field.

May He R.I.P. and be remembered by all who enjoyed and enjoy his drive ins and food.

In the early 70's when I finally got my T bucket on the road in Texas the first place my wife and I stopped at with it was the Sonic Drive in Waco, TX. In the big middle of Central Texas gully washer during the Lone Star Rod run at Fort Fisher that year.

  7. Mr.48Chev, Bet I know you cause I was there at the Sonic when that gully -washer hit at the LoneStar Mini Nats in Waco,Texas. I think we nicknamed it the "Texas Rain Run" In those days.

Sonic! I'm old, SO it's just great to go somewhere that people do it the way it was done in the '50s and '60s. Carhops are just a wonderful touch . . . AND trad!!!

May the founder rest well, knowing that he made generations happier! Salute!

    RIP Troy Smith and Godspeed!
In 1989 they built a Sonic in Azusa. I started a cruise nite there on Tuesdays from 5-10pm. It was a success and brought in much needed business. Another guy who ran a cruise @ Friscos took it over and it was moved to Thursday nites, It would be 300 cars easy. Other nites would be sporatic.
That SONIC was only given a short lifespan and was dozed within 7yrs. Very Sad!

The closest one that we have to us now is in Anaheim-Fullerton. It stays busy.
The next closest one is in Victorville. It's Brand New! seems to good business.
Here's a little history off their site:
Sonic, America's Drive-In, originally started as a hamburger and root beer stand in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla., called Top Hat Drive-In, and then changed its name to Sonic in 1959. The first drive-in to adopt the Sonic name is still serving customers in Stillwater, Okla. Sonic has more than 3,500 drive-ins coast to coast where more than a million customers eat every day. For more information about Sonic Corp. and its subsidiaries, visit Sonic at www.sonicdrivein.com.
    SONC-G

I hope that the chain will continue to be a part of American Institution will always remain "Americas Drive In"
From your friends @ Bob's Big Boy Broiler Drive-In in Downey.
